    Base Pay: $17.38 Hourly . SUMMARY: Drives various kinds of trucks and operates various types of equipment engaged in the construction, repair and maintenance of streets, landfills, alleys, county facilities, grounds and in clearing rights-of-way. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Regularly operates, inspects, and evaluates machinery, equipment, and systems to include front-end loaders, pneumatic roller, flat wheel roller, maintainer, tractor-operated auger, chip spreader, sheepsfoot roller, sweeper, compactor, and other equipment as assigned. Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, hydraulic system, etc. and makes appropriate adjustments in order to be certain that vehicle or equipment is in proper operating condition prior to leaving for the job site. Performs routine maintenance support and activities to include maintenance and construction work, drainage work, traffic control, right-of-way mowing, etc. Drive a dump truck or other truck hauling materials and equipment to construction or repair sites. Operates heavy equipment such as a maintainer in a trainee status. Perform preventive maintenance work and make minor repairs on equipment (including welding). SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Depending on assignment, may supervise and/or direct the work of a patch crew on an intermittent basis. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Nueces County organization policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work and resolving problems. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a Texas Class "C" Driver License. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of the safe operation of the equipment used and of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to operation of such motorized equipment. Ability to service and make minor repairs on equipment and to know safety standards and prevent hazards. Ability to operate or learn to operate equipment effectively and safely. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Greets customers as they enter the yard. Loads and unloads products into customers, vendors, and company vehicles safely and accurately. Responds to customer's questions regarding products. Informs store management or supervisor of any customer complaints or requests in a timely manner. Moves, stocks, and rearranges building materials in the yard, warehouse, and interior of store. Performs routine safety checks on forklifts according to company guidelines. Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the lumberyard and warehouses, by stacking products squarely and picking up bands, chocks, and trash. Verifies customer or vendor ticket matches the merchandise that is being loaded. Covers exposed materials, when required, to prevent weather damage. Cuts lumber and other related materials as requested by the customer. Operates a forklift. Attends all store meetings and training sessions. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to carry out a series of instructions without constant supervision. Able to remain professional and courteous at all times. Knowledge of weight distribution and loading patterns. The ability to adjust the controls of a machine or vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions. Must successfully complete all company training and certification requirements regarding equipment usage, including obtaining McCoy's forklift certification. Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Forklift operator certification. Successful completion of on-the-job training; completing levels 1 and 2 of the positional training offered. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing and moving around the yard and warehouse. Must be able to use the three point hold when getting into trucks and/or forklifts. Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds at times, occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds, and push and/or pull 50 pound loads at a time. The ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods.
