ABL is seeking a skilled forming press operator with a highly-trained eye for quality to join our metal working department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop new methods, techniques, form blocks, etc., to facilitate straightening and forming.Use test equipment to determine conformity to engineering drawings.Work on parts of unusual complexity requiring exacting tolerances.Obtain work package as delivered to work station, as assigned by area lead/supervisor.Review Work Order (W/O) to determine work to be performed, verify that prior operations have been completed and ensure that the correct type and quantity of parts/material were issued.Select machine accessories and holding devises (e. g., jaws, ram heads, blocks, shims). Verify that apparatus is in good condition.Separate dies, as required, using appropriate handling equipment (e. g., pry bar, hoist). Load proper forming die on press per W/O.Secure standard tool pins and mounting bolts in place using hand tools, align and make appropriate adjustments per set up cards and/or tooling usage instructions.Set up press cycle using manual power switch to adjust Random Access Memory (RAM) (e. g., speed of travel, pressure, stops), as required.Use check fixture and/or precision measuring tools to check part periphery and/or dimensions, as required.Check work to ensure parts are complete per W/O, tool and/or drawing and that there are no visible defects.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or a GED equivalent At least two years of experience in forming
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Ability to comprehend blueprints and work specifications Preferred aerospace industry experience Knowledge and experience using various kinds of hand-held power tools.Knowledge and experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment (i. e. micrometers, calipers and/or dial indicators.

Ducommun forming press operator job description

This position requires a 3-3-1 schedule of either A Team, B Team, or C Team Schedule. Shift and training schedule will be determined upon offer. Once training is completed, employee will go to offered shift if different than training schedule.
(Team A Schedule 6:00am-6:30pm) which includes:

Week 1: 3 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)

Week 2: 4 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Sunday)*

(Team B Schedule 6:00pm-6:30am) which includes:

Week 1: 3 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)

Week 2: 4 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Sunday)*

(Team C Schedule 6:00am-6:30pm) which includes:

Week 1: 3 days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)*

Week 2: 4 days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every other Sunday)*

*Hours/schedule may be modified due to Company need.

Job Summary & Essential Functions:

The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. Sets up and operates heavy duty power press to bend, form, and straighten metal plates, formed sheet metal, structural shapes, and weldments.

Read, interpret, and follow work orders, mylars, check fixtures and other engineering data.

Acquire required tooling by using internal procedures.

Operate hydraulic and mechanical presses.

Properly install dies into press.

Adjust press stroke and tonnage.

Operate automated argon system.

Check own work and take first part to quality inspection.

Collects SPC data according to the control plan attached to the work order.

Makes any adjustments necessary to maintain quality parts within control limits for SPC.

Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

Other duties as assigned.
