Responsibities:


The purpose of this role is to support formulation development aspects of pharmaceutical products through formulations optimization to overall candidate progression for clients’ products. Applying a working knowledge of formulation science theories, practices and concepts, the incumbent works under the direct supervisions of senior R&D scientists to execute and manage product formulation projects. This role will ensure all SOPs and protocols are maintained and applied.

• Under the supervision of the R&D Manager, perform formulation and pre-formulation activities in the development and scale-up of formulations including parenteral (solutions and suspensions) and nasal spray products from bench top to pilot-scale to commercial production.
• Manufacture small scale laboratory batches to experiment with formulation creation or enhancements.
• Prepare and write study plans, technical reports, which summarize formulation development work and results.
• Operate all small-scale equipment and perform troubleshooting and calibration of equipment as needed.
• Performs assigned tasks which are needed to maintain the formulation laboratory. Such tasks may include ordering laboratory supplies, calibrating instruments and Hazmat duties.
• Manage time effectively to complete assignments in an expected timeframe.
• Document all experimental work neatly and correctly in a lab notebook in accordance with SOPs. Review test results and notebook to ensure accurate documentation.
• Ensure proper training before performing any experimentation and maintain an up-to-date training record related to all job functions.
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and other regulatory requirements related to research and development (product development, design and safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities.
• Maintain quality checks on safety of the laboratory, including biohazards and ensure maintenance of the facilities.
• Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s of Science Degree, Master’s degree and / or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Formulation Chemistry or similar degree
• Minimum of 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical formulation is preferred.
• Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
• Must ensure safety regulations are adhered to in the laboratory.
• Must comply with all company policies.
• Flexibility in schedule is required.

Under the supervision of a group leader, the formulations chemist will prepare formulations for neo-natal screening and metabolomic applications and prepare single and multi-component solutions for CIL's environmental standards business, using SOPs and batch records as appropriate. Much of the work will be carried out in compliance with cGMP and/or ISO quality systems.
Responsibilities

Prepare standards and screening kits according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)

Maintain detailed documentation of all activities

Handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines

Assist other lab personnel as needed

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related discipline or equivalent experience

Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment

Experience in formulating chemical standards

1+ year experience in a laboratory environment including internships or college lab experience

cGMP and/or ISO experience a plus

In addition, increasing research into the potential medical advantages of new deuterated drugs is also occurring. **What will you do?**

+ Manufactures conjugated micro concentrates, protein conjugates, fragmentation of BSA, and buffers following cGMPs.

+ Purifies conjugates on the microgon diafiltration, HPLC, FPLC and size-exclusion chromatography.

+ Performs analytical and functional testing of conjugates.

+ Weighs, transfers, and mixes required chemicals.

+ Reviews in-process and completes batch records.

+ Participates in daily standup meetings or scheduling meetings.

+ Participates in weekly lab clean-ups and expired material segregations, and monthly cold box clean-ups.

+ Maintains and orders lab supplies as needed.

+ Maintains and analyzes lot histories for trends and discrepancies.

+ Maintains, troubleshoots, and validates equipment as appropriate.

+ May participate in process improvement projects such as updating processes and/or equipment to improve efficiencies and support business needs.

+ May write, review, or modify SOPs, work instructions, and reports with guidance.

+ Keeps department manager updated on all issues.

+ Performs other job duties as required.

**How will you get here?**

+ Applicants should have a BA or BS degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or equivalent

+ 0-2 years of laboratory experience. Experience can be derived from internships or positions held post-graduation.

+ Hands-on experience with microgon diafiltration, HPLC, FPLC, Disc Centrifuge technique, and spectrophotometer is desired.

+ Laboratory skills and knowledge of safety precautions are a plus.

+ Experience in working with potentially hazardous chemicals and human source materials is a plus.

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**

+ Must have excellent math and working knowledge of the metric system (weights & volumes).

+ Intermediate word processing and spreadsheet software skills with excellent oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.

+ Individuals must work well in a team environment and be adaptable to changes in priorities.

+ Self-motivated, independent, and strong critical thinking.

+ Must be organized and detail-oriented to be able to prioritize own and other's work and meet business productivity metrics.

+ Familiarity with Quality System Regulations: cGMP/GDP, ISO, and IVD regulations is a plus.

+ Manual dexterity. Must be able to lift 25 lbs routinely. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
