Responsible for the design and development of new products, creation of new technologies, and improvements to existing products
Essential Functions:
Defines project design & strategy consistent with application requirements; reviews and shares with project team members and others in the organization as appropriate. Develops formulations and related product constructions including selection of raw materials, experimental evaluations (e.g. compatibility, stability, performance, etc.) and specifications; frequently works on more than one project at a time with number depending on scope and timing. Designs & conducts experiments on lab and production scale; draws valid conclusions upon analysis of technical data from experimental testing, expertise, and literature references. Defines test methodologies and requirements; prepares test samples and conducts tests on raw materials, in-process intermediates, and/or finished products as required to support programs; develops new tests as necessary to support development or product improvement projects. Fulfills responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner; makes critical distinctions in support of prioritizing and organizing work; anticipates and proactively addresses potential lab development, scale-up, validation, clinical, regulatory and commercial issues during development. Efficiently troubleshoots and solves technical problems. Participates in the design and specification of production-scale processes and validation thereof. Contributes and represents R&D while serving on cross-functional teams chartered to develop and commercialize new drug delivery products; interacts effectively fulfilling functional responsibilities, collaborating with functional counterparts & customers to assure overall project success. Researches literature and patents as needed to effectively assure freedom-to-operate and otherwise support projects. Maintains up-to-date, well-organized, clear and accurate information in lab notebooks and design records consistent with established company & divisional practices. Supports and contributes to maintaining office and laboratory environment consistent with LEAN 6S and all regulatory requirements. Interacts with customers as needed to support projects; behaves in a respectful and professional manner and able to earn & maintain the confidence of associates and customers. Recognizes opportunities for and participates in patenting technology yielding sustainable competitive advantage. Maintains a current awareness of pharmaceutical and drug delivery technologies to build expertise and applies same to benefit business. Ensures up-to-date compliance with all training requirements; understands overall business strategy and plans while also working to execute responsibilities in accordance thereof. Makes identifiable and beneficial contributions to continuous improvement; performs all duties safely and consistent with established company and divisional procedures and guidelines; actively complies with and endorses department, divisional and company objectives. Responsible for following all applicable waste handling procedures.

Job Specifications:
B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or Polymer/Materials Science with a minimum of 4 years experience in pharmaceutical and/or drug delivery systems formulation; advanced degree and/or more extensive experience preferred. Polymer formulation and mixing process experience in drug delivery required with coatings experience preferred; oral solid dosage form experience required; Knowledge of and experience with cGMP, 21CFR Part 211 required; QbD, PAT, & ICH experience preferred. Must communicate fluently in English and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Capable of performing duties independently with limited supervisory direction. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities. Familiarity and aptitude with chemical analytical techniques, i.e. liquid/gas chromatography, TGA, DSC, FT-IR etc. and associated data analysis. Working knowledge of statistical-based software (Minitab) and experimental techniques (DOEs). Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to conduct self in a professional manner & maintain appearance accordingly. Functioning capability with standard computer software (word-processing, spreadsheets, internet & database searching, email, etc.) and Oracle ERP systems.

AMVAC, an American Vanguard company, successfully serves global markets through development, manufacturing and marketing of products for agricultural and commercial use. We are hiring a full-time FORMULATOR for 1st shift at the Los Angeles manufacturing plant. The Formulator assists with the packaging of liquids, granules and powders and prepares products for shipping. Day Shift; Monday through Friday. Excellent Benefits!
Job Duties & Responsibilities

* Assist with chemical blending and formulations operations
* Prepare containers and cartons for production packaging operations
* Operate labeling machine and make sure packages are properly labeled
* Check completed package and verify all containers are filled correctly for weight and volume
* Position and tighten caps on containers using manual torque wrenches
* Fill containers by hand, opening and closing spigots; operate filling machinery
* On and off load conveyors with empty and filled containers (cans, bottles, cartons, drums)
* Maintain environmental compliance by practicing good housekeeping, keeping chemicals and hazardous waste containers closed, labeled and stored properly
* Work safely with and around toxic and corrosive chemicals
* Wear proper safety equipment (PPE) such as hard hat, safety glasses, chemical resistant aprons, dust mask, rubber gloves, respirator, safety boots, rain protection gear, as required
* Operate forklift to move palletized, packaging goods, drums etc. to and from work area

Skills & Qualifications

* Must be able to communicate effectively with co‐workers, supervisors, and managers
* Perform simple arithmetic calculations and fractions
* Operate manual and automated stapling machines, forklifts, power and other hand tools
* Observe and follow instructions for general fire safety tasks and fire‐fighting equipment
* Perform miscellaneous dry powder blending work as directed by supervisor
* Availability to work different shifts / weekends when required
* Safely move up to 50 pounds with assistance
* Must pass post‐offer drug testing, background checks and other appropriate testing as required

The objective of this role is to develop driveline fluids for electric/hybrid applications and automatic transmissions to meet the technical needs of key global OEMs as directed by manager.

Responsibilities

* Technical lead and / or project lead for customer specific and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) based formulations globally as directed. Visit customers / OEMs as needed
* Performs formulation and testing activities to meet established project objectives. Effective project management via use of the Afton Product Development Process.
* Participates in technical and/or project reviews and presents findings as appropriate for internal and external audiences.
* Build relationships and be the primary technical resource for formulation questions for supported OEMs.
* Engages with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, such as Business, Process Development, Marketing, CTS (Customer Technical Services), Mechanical Testing, OEM Relationship Team, etc.
* Represent Afton in technical conferences, societies and other industry activities. Maintain adequate level of technical expertise and self-development through study, seminars, etc. Stay informed of advanced developments inside and outside of Afton.
* Provide strategic insight for OEM opportunities.
* Promote Afton's culture, values, quality, and safety principles.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or other relevant science field)
* Thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable chemistry and/or engineering principles and application in a research and development environment typically acquired after at least 5 years of relevant experience

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

* Advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or other relevant science field); PhD is strongly preferred
* Experience directly related to applicable product or product category (ATF and electrified powertrain fluid formulations)

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

* Creative thinking and planning - Ability to identify additive approaches / formulations to meet customer needs.
* Decision Making: Ability to use structured processes and tools to make decisions
* Relationships: Ability to network, build, and nurture relationships within and cross-SBU teams and external customers; ability to work well with others and to influence without authority
* Communication: Ability to communicate in timely and effective manner to wide variety of Afton and external customers. Writing of technical reports and presentations required. Able to explain the complex in understandable manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
* Organization: Use of Project Management, Stage Gate, and structured processes to consistently deliver results when working on complex and multiple programs.
* Positive attitude, independent worker, flexible, responsive, and pro-active
* Formulation experience is strongly desired
* Statistical background and use of DOE (design of experiments)
* Able to travel as required with up to 25% domestic and/or international travel at times
