This position provides professional as well as clerical support to the District Clerk's Office in a temporary capacity. Assists full-time staff by providing technical and administrative support on projects. Accurately initiates, indexes, processes, maintains and records incoming court filings and collection of court fees in accordance with the Texas Codes of Civil, Family and Criminal Procedure and the Texas Government Code. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examines, verifies and inputs data into various court computer systems to update information regarding pending, disposed, microfilmed, criminal, civil, and family cases, using detailed data entry codes.
Researches and analyzes historical data.
Verifies, processes and distributes documents to appropriate locations, print and provide case index, ensure files are complete and in proper order at all times.
Uses various computer checkout systems and a warehouse inventory index to ensure exact location of files and reproduce or retrieve files upon request.
Verifies, analyzes and indexes mass filings of attorney general documents. Answers incoming telephone calls and assists and responds to public, attorney or County inquiries or directs to appropriate person.
Calculates and collects costs of court and monetary transactions associated with criminal cases according to the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
Researches monetary transactions and calculates percentages reimbursed by State agencies to determine fees owed in a civil law suit involving multiple case parties.
Issues Bill of Cost to collect outstanding fees and to outline complex costs awarded per court judgment.
Issues and tracks summons, subpoenas, citations, warrants, writs, restraining orders, protective orders, notices and other documents as prescribed by law and at the direction of the requesting party, and as ordered by the District Court and Court of Appeals and responds to questions from public regarding these documents.
Prepares and scans documents with efficiency and attention to detail.
Supports and assists department staff as needed.
Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma/GED; Sixty (60) hours of college level coursework required and eligible to receive college credit hours through their University's Academic "Internship" Program.

Good computer and data entry skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite preferred. Good math and typing skills (minimum 40 WPM).

As an Apprentice Electrician, you spend your day learning the concepts and skills necessary to become a certified electrician. This position is supervised by the Deputy City Attorney for the nine-person, in-house legal counsel for the City of College Station, population approximately 120,000. The clerk will have opportunity to work with various attorneys and paralegals in the office depending on the project or work assignment. This is an opportunity to gain insight into public law and what it's like to be in-house legal counsel for a public entity.
The City Attorney will sponsor the hired applicant for their State Bar of Texas Supervised Practice Card.
General Municipal Law Practice. This includes real estate, contracts, employment and other general law areas. The law clerk may assist in title review, preparation of deeds and related real estate documents, organization of documents for various transactions, proofreading of contracts, and researching legal issues related to these matters.
Prosecution. The law clerk may assist the City Attorney's Office in municipal court prosecution of Class C misdemeanors.
