Fort Knox Federal Credit Union company history timeline

1950

When the Credit Union opened in 1950, the Membership could fit into a small conference room.

1960

July 1960 The charter was changed to accept military personnel as members and the name was changed to Fort Knox Federal Credit Union.

1965

Heritage Federal Credit Union began in 1965 as Warrick Employees Federal Credit Union for the employees at ALCOA Warrick Operations in Newburgh, Indiana.

1968

February 1968 The Credit Union moved into its first free-standing location on the Fort Knox military post.

1975

January 1975 The Credit Union opened a second location at the Commissary/PX Complex on post.

1976

October 1976 The first Elizabethtown Branch opened on Dixie Highway.

1978

January 1978 A two-story addition was completed at the Pershing branch, greatly expanding the Credit Union's member service operations.

1985

In 1985, Griffiss-Oneida Federal Credit Union merged with DeWitt First Federal Credit Union in Syracuse and our name was changed again to Up State Federal Credit Union.

1996

June 1996 The Bardstown Branch was opened.

1999

October 1999 The Leitchfield Branch was relocated to a new building and the first Shared Branch in Louisville was opened.

2000

November 2000 With more than $260 million in assets, the Credit Union celebrated 50 years of dedicated service to members.

2002

In the spring of 2002, the credit union expanded its services into the Fort Wayne Meijer stores.

2009

February 2009 The doors opened to our new Campbellsville branch located at 121 Walmart Drive.

2010

March 2010 The new free-standing Brandenburg branch, located at 1452 Old State Road, opens it's doors on March 29th, 2010.

2012

May 2012 The new free-standing Bardstown Branch, located at 100 Kelly Drive, opens for business on May 21, 2012.

2017

August 2017 The new branch in Bowling Green, located at 2345 Gary Farms Blvd., opens for business.

2020

February 2020 Fort Knox Federal Credit Union changed its name to Abound Credit Union.
