Growth to the North in the 1950'sMajor changes in the city began to occur in the 1950s with the appearance of small shopping centers such as Quimby Village, Rudisill Center, and South Anthony Plaza.
The biggest jump came in 1955 with the opening of Southgate Shopping Center, just off Pettit Avenue.
May 18th, 1964 — Marion and Vern Ward opened the doors of WARD Pattern & Engineering Company as a small pattern shop with three employees and 1,500 sq. ft.
1969 — An aluminum foundry was started by Marion’s brother, Gail Cole, to produce prototype and short-run production sand castings for various industries including the AEROSPACE and AUTOMOTIVE markets.
1978 — Ward Aluminum Casting, Inc. was formed by assuming assets and liabilities of Cole Precision Castings.
To that end, in 1985 the company changed its name to OmniSource, which was intended to suggest that the enterprise was a single source for all types of scrap metal products.
Healthy markets and prices in 1994 sent OmniSource's sales spiraling to a record $420 million for the year.
In 1995 OmniSource was focusing on improving service and sales to its existing customer base, and adding new clients in its existing midwest markets.
