Job Description
In 2019, T. Parker Host acquired United Bulk Terminals (UBT) on Mile 55 of the Mississippi River as one of the largest bulk terminals in the U.S. Gulf, specializing in coal and petcoke. This 1,200 acre property in Davant, Louisiana is capable of extensive loading, discharging and storage - with deep-water docks, fleeting capacity for 500 barges and over 40 pieces of heavy equipment to handle cargo loads.
Since the acquisition, HOST has made extensive improvements in systems and equipment, making the facility safer, more environmentally friendly, and more efficient to better serve our customers.
Position Summary: In this position, the team member will operate all terminal equipment to distribute the cargo safely and efficiently to the appropriate cargo holds or warehouse as per the operating plan and instructions; Operate as a member of a team, responsible for coordinating information flow between each crew member and location staff/management in the receiving and loading of cargo.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Performs a wide variety of tasks involving mobile and fixed equipment operation, conveyer systems barge un loadings and vessel loadings. Assist operators and maintenance personnel. Work under direct or indirect supervisor.
Operate D6, D10 dozers, and large front end Loader to build and maintain piles of coal and petroleum coke in line with management pile size instructions. Push product to reclaiming machine in efficient manner to expedite the loading of marine vessels.
Operate any other heavy equipment as needed to perform any work for which the equipment is designed, and operator is qualified for.
Maintains housekeeping standards as part of fire safety program or as designated by location staff/management.
Performs a variety of duties included, but not limited to the attached task lists.
Demonstrate and maintain behaviors that proactively support safe work practices while recognizing and communicating conditions of potential risk.
Know and use established safety rules and regulations including “lock out- tag out” procedures.
Responsible for checking equipment for damage or repairs needed and reporting information to Maintenance Supervisor or Terminal Manager.
Make regular inspections of the transport systems and perform minor maintenance tasks such as adjusting and lubricating equipment, cleaning, washing, testing, replacing filters, hoses, and other minor maintenance as necessary to maximize port systems availability and reliability.
Performs minor maintenance tasks such as repairing, adjusting and lubricating equipment, gauges, valves, hoses, and etc. as necessary to maximize machine availability/reliability and assist maintenance personnel as required.
Complies with all procedures to ensure governmental, state, and company certification standards are met.
Performs all duties assigned by the Shift Leader(s), Operations Manager(s), and Terminal Manager to make sure port operations continue without interruption.
Ensure that safe equipment operating conditions are met before and during operation.
Works closely, as needed, with flaggers when making lifts or rigging equipment or material.
Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:
HS diploma / GED with experience operating heavy machinery.
1+ year experience of operating D6 Dozer, D10 preferred
Ability to respond to issues quickly, safely and effectively in a fast-paced, stressful operating environment
Valid driver's license and TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC required
Ability to work outside in all types of weather
Ability to work on the river.
Must be available to work varied hours, shifts including days/nights/weekends/holidays as required

PURPOSE:

Starting Compensation: Maintenance and Trades Technician 5: $19.50 - $24.86
Maintenance and Trades Technician 6: $22.13 - $28.20 The starting salary ranges are included for the Maintenance and Trades Technician profile which reflects the
minimum to approximately 50% of the respective pay grades
. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance. Essential Functions
Mows and performs general maintenance of canals and waterways utilizing tractors, batwing mowers, front end loaders, bulldozers, and other types of heavy equipment.
Mows and trims around fence lines, gates, and culverts utilizing zero turn mowers, line trimmers, equipment trailers and pickup trucks.
Sprays herbicide to maintain fence lines, gates, riprap embankments, and culverts.
Operates chainsaws and other handheld equipment as required.
Picks up and disposes of trash and debris.
Operates tractor-trailers, dump trucks, heavy duty trucks, and trailers to transport heavy equipment, rock, dirt and construction materials to job sites.
Maintains District conservation lands utilizing harrow discs, bush hog mowers, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment to maintain roads, firebreaks, creeks, and natural systems.
Participates in prescribed burning and wildfire suppression activities. Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs to the equipment operated.
Operates, maintains and transports heavy equipment; oversees and executes projects on District lands.
Completes U.S. Army Corps of Engineers canal inspections and maintenance, road grading, culvert installation and low water crossings.
Operates forestry equipment for various tasks including prescribed burning, disking and chopping underbrush.
Participates in all aspects of the District's emergency operations during storm events, wildfires and other declared emergencies.
Operates loaders, dozers, excavators, tractors, transports, graders, skidders, boom mower, dump trucks, light and heavy vehicles, back-hoe, skid steer, gooseneck trailers, and chainsaws.
Enters data for timecards, work orders, vehicle/fuel logs, reports, e-mails, and District Cyber training classes.
Respond to emergency management activities or other incidents requiring response in support of District designated events.

Application Process
The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. Additional Details
This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week out of the Bartow, FL Office. Occasional overtime and overnight travel is required. Employee may be required to work on nonscheduled workdays including weekends, and holidays, during declared emergencies or when the workload is such that it is required. This position is eligible for overtime for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week.
The Heavy Equipment Operator is a safety sensitive position. As such, the employee will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Safely and productively operates equipment including excavator, forklift, front end loader, 970- & 972-wheel loaders, and other equipment, using proper techniques
Monitors each load of waste, watching for signs of unacceptable waste, and notifies a supervisor it unacceptable waste is detected.
Achieves maximum productivity by meeting and/or exceeding established productivity standards.
Adheres to all safety and company standards and rules to include but not limited to hard hat and safety vest use as directed. Ensures all safety rules are adhered to by co-workers and customers, reports any safety violations to supervisor.
Continuously monitors the equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time. Cleans tracks or wheels on equipment.
Performs and documents minor service on equipment and performs and documents a post-trip/post use inspection of the equipment.
Completes Equipment Condition Report and reports any necessary repairs to supervisor and/or Maintenance Shop. Completes other required forms.
Ensures that equipment is properly cleaned, serviced, and stored at the end of each shift.
Performs pre-operation and post-operation inspection of the equipment, and ensures windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view camera are
