Working at FotoKem

This was the worst job I ever had.

People yelled at subordinates a lot. No one delineated my responsibilities. They made myself, and my direct superior change our names to make them easier to remember.

The CEO was rude to me on every day I met him except my first day.

There are too many middle managers at this company. I was left alone with no instructions at a storage building. When I tried to show initiative I was met with derisive statements like "if that's how you think you should be using your time..." I was told on my first day that they thought I was on drugs because I couldn't start the job until I finished a large theatre production for which I was the lead audio engineer.

I became certified as an Avid Support representative, and researched the company.

I made decent money at Fotokem, but it was less per hour than I made as an independent contractor.

All of my coworkers were white men except my direct supervisor who was compelled to be called "ger-man" despite his actual latino name being pronounced "Her-man". I was Freddy when I was hired, but since the lead engineer was also Freddy, I was called "Dan".

Kicking butt and being exhausted at the end of the day with a sense of accomplishment and appreciation.
