The EMS Educator II provides EMT class instruction to various groups of adult learners, maintains equipment, and services area. This position is responsible to maintain and update policy and procedure manuals. This position will, also, teach ACLS, PALS, ITLS/BTLS, if they possess the instructor certifications.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Assist with the scheduling of EMS Education students.
Assist with the updates of departmental policy and procedure manuals.
Complete special requests for supplies, equipment, and purchased services in a timely fashion to support medical education.
Inspect and troubleshoot department equipment to ensure proper operation and schedule maintenance, as appropriate.
Maintain department equipment by implementing a regular service schedule and updating service records.
Manage preventive maintenance and development of a preventive maintenance program for all equipment.
Prepare lesson plans for high school and adult EMT classes, ensuring materials and plan are adapted to student learning styles and ages in classes.
Provide EMT instruction to various groups of adult learners, facilitate learning in various age-related groups, write evaluation instruments, and administer tests for outcomes, competency, and mastery of content.
Represents the department at various in-house and community events, as directed.

Patient Care Documentation Documents patient care information and ensures timely and accurate completion of patient care records in accordance with policies and procedures.
Abnormal Findings & Patient Progress Communicates with appropriate personnel regarding abnormal finding and patient progress.
Patient Initial Assessment Conduct pre-test screening with thorough chart review to gather relevant medical history. Identify contraindications and appropriateness of ordered testing. Collaborate with physician to identify and accommodate preferences in testing procedures and protocols.
Patient Initial Assessment Interview patient and provide education on cardiac testing. Complete pre-test assessment of vitals (heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure and symptoms).
Diagnostic Testing Start IV's and administer medication intravenously under physician direction. Respond to adverse side effects and assist the physician in medical emergencies as determined by ACLS protocol. Adhere to nuclear medicine safety measures throughout nuclear cardiac procedures.
Diagnostic Testing Interpret 12 lead EKGs. Recognize changes in routine wave forms, artifact as well as critical conditions such as segment elevation/depression, infarct patterns and life threatening arrhythmias.
Cardiac Testing Perform standard resting electrocardiograms and apply holter and cardiac event monitoring systems. Instruct patients on monitoring and ensure follow-up with the physician.

Assist purchasing technician in maintaining adequate stock levels of all medications and supplies, using the established inventory control procedures.
Communicate and demonstrate the purpose and content of the Formulary system.
Consult with and advise other Healthcare professionals and patients on matters pertaining to selection, procurement, distribution, and safe and appropriate use of medications.
Review prescriptions and medication orders, check for appropriateness, and provide information needed to properly and safely administer the medication.
Determine whether extemporaneously prescribed sterile and non-sterile products, not commercially available, should be formulated.
Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, inventories, controlled substance records, and registries; ensure records are maintained accurately and in compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
Manage the disposition of controlled substances and other dangerous drugs in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, appropriateness of drug and dose.
Provide clinical pharmacy services, as outlined in approved hospital policies, including but not limited to: pharmacokinetic consults, renal dosing, parenteral nutrition management, anticoagulation management, neonatal/pediatric/geriatric dosing management, route optimization, antimicrobial stewardship, and reviewing medications at transitions of care.
Participate in scheduled in-services, educational presentations, computer-based training, and staff meetings, to ensure ongoing understanding of and adherence to professional standards, regulatory requirements and organizational policies and practices.
