Community-based services for persons with developmental disabilities were placed on more solid ground with the passage of Senate Bill 169 in 1967.
The name was later changed to the Franklin County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities as a result of Amended Senate Bill 160, which became effective in 1980.
In 2009, the name was changed by statute to the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Straughter and her mother (she also has a sister and several step-siblings) moved to Ohio, back to California, and then to Ohio for good in 2009.
In 2017, her mother, Susan Baggette, died, and Marci’s sister wanted her to move to California and be with her.
According to the Ohio Association of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities, there were 11 such members of boards in the state at the end of 2021.
