Fred Hutch company history timeline

1985

USA. SEATTLE. WASHINGTON, 1985.

1987

In 1987 the Seattle team performed José Carreras’ marrow transplant at the Hutchinson Center.

1990

Thomas received the 1990 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for his breakthrough research, establishing a legacy of innovation and excellence that all Fred Hutch researchers strive to follow.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1990 was awarded jointly to Joseph E. Murray and E. Donnall Thomas "for their discoveries concerning organ and cell transplantation in the treatment of human disease".

1998

In 1998, the center formed the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), a separate nonprofit corporation, with UW Medicine, and Seattle Children's.

2001

SCCA's outpatient clinic first opened in January 2001.

In 2001, The Seattle Times published a series of articles alleging that investigators at the center (including the Center's co-founder E. Donnall Thomas) were conducting unethical clinical studies on cancer patients.

2010

In 2010 Lawrence Corey was appointed as the 4th President, following the retirement of Lee Hartwell.

2014

2014 saw the organization adopt its longtime local nickname, "Fred Hutch", as its official name as part of a rebranding.

2015

Berg, Barbara L and Neiman, Paul E and Groudine, Mark T (2015) Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center History Project.

2016

Fred Hutch and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance employee appreciation event on the Fred Hutch campus on August 18, 2016.

2020

In February 2020, Thomas J. Lynch Jr. took over as director.
