The average employee age for freelance photographers is 38 years. The freelance photographer workforce reached a whopping 12,125 in 2020!

Among freelance photographers, we discovered that 46.2% of them are women, while 48.4% are men. The most common race/ethnicity among freelance photographers is White, which makes up 69.9% of all freelance photographers. Comparatively, there are 15.0% of the Hispanic or Latino ethnicity and 6.4% of the Black or African American ethnicity. Freelance photographers are also more likely to work at private companies in comparison to public companies. Taking it a step further, freelance photographers are more likely to find a job in the media industry.

From where do we know all information about freelance photographer demographics? We analyzed 11,451 freelance photographers resumes to find out what the average demographics are for the job position. Just to be clear, by demographics we mean the study of population-based factors like age, race, and sex. On top of scouring through resumes, we also took note of job proposals from employers and Census Bureau data. And guess what? We found some pretty interesting information.
