Fremont Public Schools company history timeline
Lawson, upon the third floor of the Melrose Grammar School, in August, 1905, Union High School No.
The West Side Union High School District was organized in September 1921.
In May 1923, it was unanimously decided to start a high school in the District.
In June 1923, the Board purchased the land where Fremont High School is located and constructed a temporary school building.
In October 1923, night classes were established.
On February 24, 1925, a third bond election passed with “659 yes” and “293 no” votes.
In 1925, the first high school in the District was named Fremont Union High School.
So, a new Fremont is shortly to rise from the ashes of the old, to take once more the high place held by the school that was founded by Frank Stuart Rosseter. (Extracted from the June 1930 edition of "The Flame" Fremont's yearbook publication)
Homestead High School opened in the fall of 1962 with 9th and 10th grade classes.
In 1969, the original two-story main building was damaged by fire and reconstructed, preserving its original exterior character.
Monta Vista High School opened in the fall of 1969 easing the overcrowding at Homestead High School with 9th and 10th grade classes and Principal Dale Deselms.
In April 2007 our school system became the first public school system in the state to receive “District Accreditation” which is the highest level granted by AdvancED, a regional accreditation agency.
In April of 2016, Fremont Public Schools became the first school district in Nebraska to receive a second five-year extension of that classification.
