As a Machinist your responsible for machine quality parts in a cost effective manner which will be used in the production of surgical equipment and related items and/or contracted business.

What you will do as a Machinist
Consistent proficiency in setting up and effectively operating a multitude of CNC and Conventional machines such as Mills, Lathes, Grinders etc., while effectively maintaining the specified print tolerances noted
Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining repeatability such as speeds, feeds, overrides. The ability to enter command codes to retrieve machine data for program restarts and alarms
Read and interpret STERIS blueprints, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) including
Use precision measuring devices, gages, instruments to thoroughly inspect and insure that parts meet the print tolerances and in process dimensions
Remain safety conscious at all times, wearing all the required safety equipment for your work area. Conform to all safety rules and policies stated in the employee handbook
Keep and maintain a clean and orderly work environment while instituting the 5S principles of Lean Manufacturing
Immediately report any and all safety related issues ,irregularities, and discrepancies relating to job functions and assignments
Conform to all policies, procedures and rules of conduct as communicated through the Employee handbook, Bulletin
The Experience, Skills and Abilities
Required:
High school graduate or GED required, technical degree preferred.
Ability to set-up and operate CNC and conventional Lathes and Mills.
Ability to read and interpret current engineering blueprints and production specifications.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments and gages such as calipers and micrometers.
Other:
Strong math skills and the ability to apply them.
Minimum two years machinist experience.
Ability to make decisions and stay quality focused
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and members of the leadership team
Assist with training other operators.
Willingness to work overtime, if required.
Knowledge, understanding and application of Lean Manufacturing tools, such as, 5S, Kanban Inventory,
Visual Management, Waste elimination, and Root Cause Problem Solving are preferred.

Perform minor program edits (tool locations, speeds/feeds) under supervision
Change stick tools, drills, boring bars, reamers, knurls (live and static tools)
Collaborate with engineering to optimize speeds, feeds, and cycle times
Mentor and support junior machinists and operators
Complete all job-related documentation accurately
Suggest process improvements and machining best practices
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
8-10 years of precision CNC machine setup experience in a machine shop environment
Strong experience with measuring instruments and quality inspections
Proficiency with multi-axis CNC lathes, Swiss-type machines, and machining centers
Ability to write CNC programs using CAM software
Deep understanding of tooling, tool holders, inserts, and machine controls
Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
Ability to work independently and in a team within a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Reliable and consistent attendance is a must
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience mentoring others in a shop environment
Familiarity with setup optimization and process improvement initiatives

POSITION SUMMARY:
Produces machined parts by setting up and operating CNC lathe machines; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. The role requires the above to be accomplished within Tecomet's principles of continuous improvement, customer driven innovation and a win first culture, while meeting company financial and other performance metrics.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate, set up, and could program CNC lathes with tight tolerances following work instructions and in accordance with machine programs and engineering drawings
Change offsets/tooling in machines as part of a new setup
Perform difficult CNC Machinist work including progressive machining of a variety of parts and different metals where very close tolerances must be maintained
Read and evaluate blueprints or specifications
Troubleshoot and understand CNC programs and processes
Change dull tooling, and/or make minor offsets and adjustments as needed for tooling wear
Ensure product quality is achieved by working to operator owned quality (OOQ) standards and requirements including using a range of measuring equipment and interpreting readings
Propose adjusted speeds and feeds for different machining requirements
Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to PM schedule
Perform hand finishing
Follow Good Manufacturing and Good Document Practices (GMP/GDP) at all times including completion of job routers/ cards
Ensure safe working practices are carried out to minimize risks to yourself and/or colleagues, including identifying and reporting Safety, Health & Environmental issues
Achieve set productivity targets and identify ways of improving productivity
Record all activities in a timely manner on the job tracking system
Identify and support Continuous Improvement activities
Identify and escalate manufacturing issues to the Team Leader and/or Supervisor, participating in the resolution as required
Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within work area
Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by supervisor
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
5+ years CNC Lathe Machining experience
Associates degree/certificate in Tooling & Machining or Machinist apprenticeship preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Ability to operate, set up, and maintain CNC Lathe Machines
Ability to set up, adjust offsets and operate and run development and production jobs
Ability to understand a CNC program
Solid necessary math skills, including measuring and keeping count records
