The Grade 3 Machinist position is an overtime-eligible, senior craft position that reports to the Machine Shop Management team. The Grade 3 Machinist is responsible for manufacturing parts that meet or exceeds Charm Sciences standards. These standards include a high-level of precision on all piece parts manufactured within the machine shop. Grade 3 Machinist is an A/R Class A Machinist.
The pay range for this position is $27.50 to $41.00 per hour. Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and other factors in accordance with applicable laws.
Essential Functions
Set up and operate all manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision. Proto-Trak Millers and Proto-Trak Lathe, Surface Grinder, to fabricate tools, fixtures and Charm Sciences Products.
Excellent work ethic, professional work attitude and a desire/ability to self-motivate.
Determine machining operations, tool selections, setups and develop processes and procedures using Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
Keep accurate records of work performance, processes and procedures, order of operations, tooling used for specific features, setup methods for each specific job.
Inspect and Document first piece, in process and final inspection and confirming other machinist's first pieces.
Select and use all necessary measuring tools, conventional hand tools, gage pins, calipers, micrometers, depth gage, and B&S Micro-Hite 350.
Able to work from drawings, sketches, or verbal and written instructions.
Full Knowledge of Blueprint interpretation and GD & T skilled.
The person in this position frequently operates various machine shop equipment such as Saws, Belt Sanders, Grinders, Drill Press, Shear, Brake, and other hand tools as well as office equipment such as a computer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Independently set up HAAS 3-axis and 4-axis CNC milling machines, including rotary tables (A-axis), fixtures, tooling, and offsets
Install, indicate, and align 4-axis rotary tables, tailstocks, and tombstones to ensure accurate centerline and perpendicularity
Load, verify, and edit CNC programs involving indexed and continuous 4-axis motion
Establish and verify work offsets (G54-G59), rotary offsets, and tool length offsets for multi-axis machining
Perform first-article inspections on multi-face parts and make real-time program and offset adjustments
Troubleshoot complex 4-axis issues, including:
Angular misalignment
Rotary zero return errors
Positional repeatability issues
Tool clearance and collision risks
Optimize machining strategies to reduce multiple set-ups through effective 4-axis indexing and rotation
Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on fixture design, tooling selection, and program improvements
Support high-mix, low-volume production requiring frequent and complex changeovers
Train and support CNC Operators on safe operation and best practices for 4-axis machining
Required Technical Experience
5+ years of CNC machining experience with significant HAAS set-up responsibility
Hands-on experience setting up and running 4-axis HAAS milling machines (required)
Proven experience working with:
HAAS rotary tables (TRT / HRT or equivalent)
Tombstone and multi-face fixturing
Complex part orientation and datum control
Strong ability to read and interpret:
Complex blueprints
GD&T, including position, profile, concentricity, and runout

POSITION SUMMARY:
Produces machined parts by setting up and operating CNC lathe machines; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate, set up, and could program CNC lathes with tight tolerances following work instructions and in accordance with machine programs and engineering drawings
Change offsets/tooling in machines as part of a new setup
Perform difficult CNC Machinist work including progressive machining of a variety of parts and different metals where very close tolerances must be maintained
Read and evaluate blueprints or specifications
Troubleshoot and understand CNC programs and processes
Change dull tooling, and/or make minor offsets and adjustments as needed for tooling wear
Ensure product quality is achieved by working to operator owned quality (OOQ) standards and requirements including using a range of measuring equipment and interpreting readings
Propose adjusted speeds and feeds for different machining requirements
Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to PM schedule
Perform hand finishing
Follow Good Manufacturing and Good Document Practices (GMP/GDP) at all times including completion of job routers/ cards
Ensure safe working practices are carried out to minimize risks to yourself and/or colleagues, including identifying and reporting Safety, Health & Environmental issues

What You Will Do
Identify different types of tooling such as drills, end mills, reamers and inserts and know how to properly use them.
Ensure that parts are efficiently and accurately inspected, deburred, properly tagged and moved to the next operation.
Use measuring and inspection equipment, and inspect parts accurately to the ten-thousandths, (0.0001), of an inch.
Maintain visual perception of a finished product and the ability to recognize an out of tolerance surface finish, burrs or any other machining defects.
Manufacture a finished part and be held accountable for the accuracy of the end product.
Work from blueprints, drawings and sketches involving the use of standard machine shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments.
Must be able to identify material types and alloys using bar stock color codes.
Hold dimensions to nominal value plus or minus the variation for each specific characteristic and adjust the machine accordingly.
Must be able to operate 2 or more machines at the same time.
Assist with machine break-down and setup
Perform routine maintenance on machines after, during and after a production run and diagnose machine troubles
Responsible for organizing and cleaning workstations daily, including the machine, bar feeder, bench, computer, mats and floor. No oil, coolant or chips should be evident in any areas, especially around the floor of the machine and in tight corners of the machine.
Able to read and follow the steps of a designated program completely. Understand the concepts of surface feed, feed rates, geometry, G codes, offsets and other CNC programming functions.
Who You Are
Must Haves:
Experience working with Mazak Lathes/Machining Centers or Star Swiss Style Lathes (Preferred but not necessary)
At least one (1) - three (3) years in CNC machining operating.
High School diploma required or equivalent experience in trade school certification
Preferred:
Experience with Swiss Star Lathes, Mazak 5-Axis Mills and Integrex
