Berkot's Super Foods is seeking a skilled Food Equipment Maintenance Mechanic. The candidate will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of commercial food-processing equipment used within Berkot's production, meat, deli, and bakery departments. This role ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
Responsibilities
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair commercial food equipment including: Multivac, Reiser, Hobart, VC999, Treif, Marel, and similar machines.
Perform preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
Maintain accurate records of all service and repair activities.
Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns across multiple Berkot's store locations.
Identify root causes of repeated failures and recommend long-term solutions.
Ensure equipment operates according to manufacturer and safety standards.
Communicate effectively with store managers, meat/deli department leads, and the maintenance team.
Qualifications
2+ years of experience maintaining or repairing commercial food-service or food-processing equipment is highly preferred.
Hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.
Familiarity with packaging, slicing, sealing, and processing equipment.
Ability to read and understand technical schematics and service manuals.
Having a valid driver's license is required.
Ability to travel to Berkot's locations in the region.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
Able to lift 50+ lbs and work in production, cooler, or back-room environments.

**Summary**
The Refrigeration Technician Lead maintains, repairs, rebuilds and adjusts refrigeration, boiler and compressed air equipment in areas of responsibility by analyzing, calibrating, replacing, repairing or rebuilding all equipment and machinery within established guidelines.

**Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Troubleshoots and repairs any problems in the refrigeration area plus any refrigeration equipment in the production area including air compressors.
+ Operates and maintains all refrigeration equipment.
+ Reads, interprets and understands manufacturers' equipment manuals, preventative maintenance (PM) sheets and safety policies and fills out and completes work sheets and machine check lists.
+ Adjusts all machines to operate at established performance standards.
+ Provides work direction and training to lower level operators and/or technicians.
+ Works independently when called upon for mechanical trouble shooting and repair of the refrigeration department equipment or its related production equipment. Performs emergency shutdown, startups, reset and restart failed equipment and put all systems back on line.
+ Must wear personal protective equipment as position requires and perform job duties within established company OSHA safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout.
+ Must have clear understanding of refrigerant expansion with pressure temperature variables

**Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements**
+ When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.

+ May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
+ May be exposed to dust, feathers and all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
+ Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
+ Occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors 10ppm and chlorine less than 20 ppm.

**Summary**
The Refrigeration Technician Lead maintains, repairs, rebuilds, and adjusts refrigeration, boiler, and compressed air equipment in areas of responsibility by analyzing, calibrating, replacing, repairing, or rebuilding all equipment and machinery within established guidelines. Provides work direction and training to lower-level operators and/or technicians. **Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Troubleshoots and repairs any problems in the refrigeration area plus any refrigeration equipment in the production area including air compressors.
+ Operates and maintains all refrigeration equipment.
+ Reads, interprets and understands manufacturers' equipment manuals, preventative maintenance (PM) sheets and safety policies and fills out and completes work sheets and machine check lists.
+ Adjusts all machines to operate at established performance standards.
+ Provides work direction and training to lower level operators and/or technicians.
+ Works independently when called upon for mechanical trouble shooting and repair of the refrigeration department equipment or its related production equipment. Performs emergency shutdown, startups, reset and restart failed equipment and put all systems back on line.
+ Must wear personal protective equipment as position requires and perform job duties within established company OSHA safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work and Confined Space entry.
+ Must have clear understanding of refrigerant expansion with pressure temperature variables
+ Must be able to direct and train operators
+ Working knowledge of departmental PC's.
+ Must perform as a Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) team member after certification from Perdue.
+ Troubleshoot and repair Refrigeration and Ammonia problems.
+ Troubleshoot and repair Electrical Controls on the Refrigeration and Ammonia Systems.
+ Maintain all engine rooms, compressor rooms and roof areas in a high state of cleanliness at all times.
**Minimum Education**
High school or equivalent.
**Experience Requirements**
+ 8 plus years.
+ Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO) and Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) certification.
+ Familiarization and maintenance, Process Safety Management (PSM), respirator training, confined space entry, and other safety programs.
+ Must have all required personal tools and have the ability to learn to use and operate hand tools and industrial shop equipment.
+ Must be able to read and use dial gauges, micrometers, etc., in the alignment of motors, pumps, etc. Experience in ammonia or Freon refrigeration, boiler operations, and compressed air.
**Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements**
+ When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors, including metal and plastic grating surfaces.
+ May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
+ May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
+ They may be exposed to dust, feathers, and all chemicals used in poultry, food, and processing facilities.
+ Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
+ Occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors is 10 ppm, and chlorine is less than 20 ppm.
+ Able to stand for several hours.
+ Work may include lifting (up to 50 lbs), reaching, bending, and pushing boxes on a conveyor assembly.

The Role
As a member of our team, you will focus on typical facilities maintenance. This role is responsible to maintain, repair, disassemble and troubleshoot on a variety of equipment. Occasionally will assist with install and maintain heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration equipment, duct work and accessories at various commercial projects for the company's Seattle locations.

Install HVAC refrigeration equipment, ducts, diffusers, accessories, etc.
Use power tools to aid in installation of equipment and ducting.
Work from elevated surfaces such aerial lifts and climb ladders.
Maintain organized work environment.
Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as prescribed by company program(s) or procedure(s).
Provides feedback on developing safety initiatives and plans to eliminate exposures that could cause accidents.
SECONDARY DUTIES
