The Opportunity: Avantor is seeking a Maintenance and Reliability Supervisor to oversee facility maintenance activities. The Maintenance Supervisor's work involves complete maintenance control over designated areas and they will report to the Reliability Maintenance Engineering Manager. This is a full-time position based out of our Carpinteria, CA office with occasional travel to support other sites as needed. What we're looking for: Education: HS diploma or equivalent degree. A degree in mechanical, instrument/electrical, or another relevant discipline (preferred). Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in facility maintenance. Certifications: Certification in Reliability (CRL, CMRP, etc.) desired. Additional Qualifications: Must understand the RCM process, Failure Mode Identification, Defect Analysis, Cause and Effect Analysis, Loss Elimination, use sFMEA, RCFA Decision Logic, and FRACAS. Must understand ISO 55000 Asset Management. Expertise in CMMS best practices. Full understanding of strategic maintenance planning and scheduling activities Management and leadership skills. Budget planning skills. Good communication and reporting skills. Ability to communicate/teach/coach reliability best practices, condition monitoring, and precision methods. How you will thrive and create an impact: Supervise and ensure the safety of Maintenance employees. Oversee all maintenance activities in their area of the facility. Perform routine and turnaround maintenance and plant modifications. Evaluate and analyze products, components, materials, and equipment for the purpose of understanding and predicting failures. Review product designs, material specifications, and manufacturing capability to predict reliability and dependability. Create prototypes and conduct product tests to gather reliability data. Interpret test results and recommend solutions using appropriate statistical distributions and reliability models. Recommend product design changes or alterations in manufacturing processes and controls to ensure achievement of required reliability levels. Monitor production equipment diagnostics and review maintenance record in order to predict and prevent equipment down times. Document findings, including results of root cause analysis, and facilitate the implementation of necessary changes to ensure product and/or equipment reliability levels are maintained. May determine maintenance requirements and schedules for products and equipment. Ensure maintenance resources provide an effective, efficient, and cost-effective execution of maintenance schedules across the work area. Manage the area maintenance budget. Account for the maintenance functions in their area and take necessary action to ensure that key performance targets are met. Ensure that workforce is allocated to areas of responsibility in the most effective manner. Ensure supervisory support is provided to carry out Weekly, Daily, and Shutdown Schedules. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take appropriate corrective action. Approve purchase requisitions for direct purchase of materials promptly. Monitor execution of best practices to ensure compliance and take appropriate corrective action as necessary (with Operations Management). Follow up on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) recommendations to ensure corrective actions are taken promptly (with Operations Management). Define priorities for the area (with Operations Management). Define and update the 12-Month and 8-Week Event Schedules (with Operations Management). Identify work (early) to be done during scheduled shutdown events. Identify appropriate goals and objectives for each shutdown. Other duties as assigned. May perform welding tasks. · Complies with 5S and housekeeping standards. · Drives and participates in CI activities - processes, results and cost savings. · Updates records and reviews CMMS history. · Troubleshoots and analyzes control systems to resolve software/ hardware and configuration problems. · Utilizes predictive maintenance technologies to collect equipment performance data. · Provides assistance to lower level technicians and leadership to small teams. Maintenance supervisors oversee and coordinate the workers who maintain and repair mechanical equipment, electrical, plumbing, ventilation and all other manufacturing systems. They are responsible for evaluating problematic systems in the facilities and determining what installation or repair services need to be performed. Supervisors organize schedules and assign work activity. They perform training to ensure individuals have all the requisite skills. Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing maintenance procedures and maintaining personnel records. Duties and Responsibilities: · Guide the facility to reduce technical stoppages in equipment or areas of common occurrence (priority given to areas of highest incidence or impact). Ensure the systematic review of all line, processes, and utilities that are critical to the business and those where failure can have an unacceptable impact on safety, personnel safety, food safety, environment, or compliance with the law. · Monitor plant/equipment trends to ensure best possible operation and reduction of planned/unplanned downtime. · Propose and monitor key performance indicators in accordance with the Best Maintenance Practices. · Facilitate the evolution/refinement of Maintenance activities to minimize planned and unplanned downtime (PM's, changeovers, etc.). · Supervisory Responsibilities · Ensure the implementation of all repairs/modifications resulting from Gap assessments, plant audits, and notifications are executed on time and offer a high-quality workmanship. · Ensure that the job planning, material and services planning is accurate and effective. · Ensure that the equipment history, damage code and root cause analysis are completed correctly. · Evaluate the performance of team members and provide periodic feedback to ensure development. · Communication · Share maintenance-related best practices across all of Eddy Packing's maintenance personnel via Leadership, training guides, etc. · Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and Plant Operations to ensure customer needs are met. · Encourage close team work between all functions (Engineering, Productions, Quality Management, etc.). · Conduct regular inspections of plant to seek out potential problems and to solicit operator feedback. · Consolidate and analyze the factory M&R budgets, drive value-added and sustainable improvements. · Manage the Maintenance Parts store, scheduled Work Orders, labor hour allocation and the equipment Bill of Material (BOM). · Support and back-fill the roll-out and sustainability of TPM-PM Pillar across all of Eddy Packing's Departments. · Assures compliance with government regulatory agencies. · Other duties as assigned. Education/ Skills / Experience · BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering or Related field or equivalent maintenance job experience. · 5-10 years of progressive Maintenance experience, including 5 years or more in a managerial/supervisory capacity necessary to gain essential management skills to direct a professional and administrative work group. · Effective oral and written communication skills. · Must be compassionate but yet be capable of upholding all safety and work rules, policies, and procedures. · Must be able to work extended hours according to maintenance schedule. · Must actively strive to meet or exceed company goals and standards. · Needs to be a self-starter with the capability of making on the spot decisions. · Must like/ welcome change and have a continuous improvement state of mind. · Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other team members and departments. · Must be able to effectively communicate. · Ability to perform record keeping and mathematics necessary for employment purposes.
