Fresno Pacific University company history timeline

1944

Since class opened in 1944, FPU has encouraged first-generation students to achieve more, while building the region’s highest four-year graduation rate.

1946

Soon outgrowing its original campus, the school moved in 1946 to a former YWCA building in downtown Fresno.

1958

By 1958, land was purchased for the construction of the current campus near the corner of Butler and Chestnut, along with the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary and the new Butler Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church.

1963

In 1963, a four-year liberal arts program with biblical studies at its core was added.

1964

In 1964, Pacific Bible Institute changed its name to Pacific College, and became accredited with the WASC the next year.

1966

The outcome of the process was the formation of the "Pacific College Idea," a statement of vision adopted in 1966 that shaped the development of the college through subsequent decades.

1975

In 1975, Canadian Mennonite Brethren became partners and joint owners of the seminary.

1976

In 1976 the college changed its name to Fresno Pacific College.

1997

In an acknowledgment of its increasing complexity, the college changed its name to Fresno Pacific University in 1997.

2005

In 2005, the university was restructured to include four schools: the School of Business; the School of Education; the School of Humanities, Religion and Social Sciences; and the School of Natural Sciences.

By 2005 Fresno Pacific University had established regional campuses in Bakersfield, North Fresno and Visalia.

2010

In 2010 the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary became a part of the university, and changed its name to Fresno Pacific University Biblical Seminary.
