Donald R. Young has been President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors since November 2001. Prior to joining Aspen Aerogels, Mr. Young served as Chief Executive Officer of HighWired, a leading venture capital backed software and e-learning company. Prior to that, Mr. Young worked in the United States and abroad in a broad range of senior operating roles for Cabot Corporation, a leading global specialty chemical company. Prior to Cabot Corporation, Mr. Young worked in the investment business at Fidelity Management & Research. Mr. Young holds a BA from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

With extensive experience working in the international markets of Asia and Europe, I bring a global perspective to my work. Most recently engaged as President and CEO of A123 Systems, I managed all operational, financial, and strategic initiatives for this global manufacturer of lithium-ion battery solutions. During my tenure, I grew the company’s original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customer base by 250%, doubled annual revenue, and moved the company to profitability. With my proven history of turnaround management, my ability to create and lead high-performing teams, and my strong business and financial acumen, I am poised to make a swift and meaningful contribution to a dynamic organization.
