The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for performing delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Core Supervisor, the Sterile Processing Technician prepares and delivers medical/surgical supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures. The Sterile Processing Technician cleans, packages, and processes surgical equipment and instrumentation, as well as maintains inventory and storage of supplies in the core. The SPT manages multiple computer applications to assist with sterilization tracking and processes. Responsible to operate and troubleshoot power equipment to process instruments (i.e. autoclaves, washer disinfector, ultrasonic cleaners). Employee may be required to drive on an occasional basis as part of performing their job responsibilities. The Sterilization and Reprocessing Technician assists the Operating Room staff in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established accreditation standards and facility policies and procedures. FTE: 0.800000 Standard Hours: 32.00 Shift: 1st Under general supervision performs processing and set-up of surgical instrument trays, maintaining the correct sterilization parameters; builds surgical case carts using surgeon's preference lists; processes and distributes supplies and equipment required by Surgery, Nursing, Distribution for the treatment of patients. Maintains certification, and monitors, instructs and mentors non-certified staff. Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE: 1 year of hospital experience in sterile processing is preferred. EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent is required. LICENSURE: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from the IAHCSMM or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from the CBSPD is required.
