frog company history timeline

1969

It’sIt’s the 50th anniversary of the founding of Frog Design (or, as the company styles it, just “frog”). Founded in 1969 by Hartmut Esslinger in Germany, the company created some of the early designs for Sony, but its breakout moment came with Apple in the early ‘80s.

1982

In March of 1982, Jobs met with the Apple Design Guild, an informal and somewhat disparate group of in-house industrial designers, and told them that he would begin the search for a "world-class" designer to give Apple a uniform design language.

1983

In late spring, 1983, Esslinger moved to California to form frogdesign, Inc., signing a contract with Apple to exchange exclusive services for $100 000 per month, plus billable time and expenses (Kunkel, 28-37).

1985

The relationship between Apple and frogdesign gained enough publicity that in December of 1985, Apple could make an unglossed allusion to their design language in an advertisement for the new Apple CreditCard offering "Snow White and dwarf monthly payments" (Apple ad in Byte, Dec.

1990

Frog designed AT&T’s digital answering machine in 1990, the model 1337.

2019

Meta shut down in January 2019 and its assets were sold, but the company that purchased it remains coy about what it plans to do.
