Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Delivers patient tray carts and nourishments to food distribution centers on each floor. Serves trays to patients. Serves food to cafeteria and conference patrons. Returns trays and carts to dishwashing area. Sanitizes carts after each use; operates dishwasher to wash all dishes, trays, and utensils; washes pots and pans, stores cleaned items according to established procedure. Cleans various areas and equipment to include serving and dining areas, steam table, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and other equipment used in performing their tasks. Receives and stores delivered food; paper and supplies and verify orders received. Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, health plan members and the public. Performs other related duties as required. Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organizations philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Monitor the quality of the food to meet and/or exceed the standard of the department guidelines for: taste, appearance, temperature, quality, and timeliness of preparation.
Responsible to ensure no tray should leave the kitchen unless the order has been accurately filled.
Answer telephone and faxes, receiving and distributing messages to appropriate members of the department or organization.
Maintain sanitary standards in kitchen area designated for patient food service and apply proper food handling principles and techniques to maintain standards of food quality and comply with department policies. Keep diet office neat and orderly.
Assist supervisor or lead person in gathering Quality Assurance data.
Notify the appropriate person or follow current SMC Policy and Procedures for equipment needing repair or maintenance.
Submit request for orders to the appropriate person for office supplies, menus and forms according to usage.
Observe and maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures of department and facility.

Basic Qualifications:

Assists with food preparation in accordance with our established procedural guidelines, and as may be directed by the Food Services Manager.

Sets up tray line and performs tray line service.
Follows diet orders and NPO diet orders.
Offers menu substitutions and records them in accordance with procedural guidelines.
Properly stores leftovers/opened food.
Serves nourishments in accordance with procedural guidelines.
Makes coffee/tea as requested.
Follows procedures for serving associate meals.
Cleans kitchen equipment such as, carts, tables, counters, ice machine, buckets, blender, mixer, meat slicer, freezer, refrigerator, stove, oven, steamer, garbage disposal, dish machine coffee/tea maker, steam table etc.
Operates the dish machine, garbage disposal, mixer, blender, meat slicer and steamer.
Operates coffee and tea maker.
Follows standardized recipes.
Uses serving equipment (ladle, spoon, scoops, etc.)
Checks and records water temperature (dishwasher, pot and pan sink, etc.)
Checks dishwasher with sanitizer strips.

Receives bulk food and utilizes proper food handling techniques to hold, portion, and serve food for meals.
Prepares and cooks food for congregate and Home Delivered Meals program as required.
Ensures temperature control of food by maintaining proper temperatures according to program standards.
Records temperatures and portions of food and beverages.
Operates steam table and oven/stove top.
Packages the specified portions of hot and cold foods for home delivered meals.
Prepares milk orders for routes.
Follows additional instructions from the Central Kitchen and management.
Sets up beverage area with coffee makers, urns, beverages, etc.
Serves leftover food to congregate participants as second helpings and packages specified portions as evening/ill meals.
Operates commercial dishwasher to clean all service ware and pans.

Qualifications
EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience in food handling, food service, and cleanup preferred, including a basic knowledge of public health, food handling, and safety standards.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
Food Handler's certification required upon hire (ServSafe, National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, or other approved certification).
Current CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire.
PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:
Requires clearance of a DOJ and FBI criminal history background check.
