Internship Overview
The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets of event planning and implementation, volunteer management, and community outreach. We will provide networking opportunities including connecting with our Executives. The program will also offer experience in the use of current business and development technologies. Interns will have the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, sales skills and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service.
Internship Overview:
Time Commitment: 20-30 hours per week Internship Duration: Spring Semester Must be in the Twin Cities Area for in-person work. There will be some work from home hours as well.
Responsibilities
The intern is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of youth fundraising and education activities for the American Heart Association. Specific projects will include support for the Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge programs in the Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
Some of the skills acquired include:
Experience working with and managing volunteers Understanding of event logistic coordination Improved written and verbal communication skills Experience educating youth about the importance of healthy living Ability to provide excellent customer service over the phone and in person Experience working in a professional environment
Some of the activities included are:
Supporting Youth Market Directors Day to day activities which include Customizing website Headquarters, social media posts and parent communication. Face to Face school visits with the focus of recruitment of new schools with a strong focus on Middle and High School market Relationship building with current volunteers. These volunteers are primarily principals, teachers, PE professionals, Superintendents, and survivor families
Qualifications
Reliable transportation to visit event locations to recruit new Middle and High Schools within the Twin Cities Metro area. (Dakota, Washington, Hennepin, Carver, Anoka and Ramsey counties) Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Ability to use Microsoft Office programs preferred. Minimum availably 20hrs/wk, Monday- Friday during with a range of 7:30-5:00. Must be able to lift 50 pounds Required Equipment: Laptop (the preference would be for interns to use their own equipment, and we only provision AHA equipment when necessary) Reliable WiFi Connection

Alaska SeaLife Center fundraising internship job description

This position will assist our development department regarding non-profit fundraising and event activities. Duties will revolve around helping with the Center's major fundraising events that are both in person and virtual. Tasks will include: (1) assisting with event planning and other pre-event activities as well as post event follow up, (2) working with staff on silent and live auction item procurement, creating and staging of packages, and database entry, (3) other development tasks as needed and (4) 8 hours as an interpreter for the Center, connecting visitors with Alaska SeaLife Center content.
Education/Training Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in process. Experience with fundraising events is preferred; good communication, database entry, and time management skills are desired.

Essential Duties:

+ Works with the Development Director and other staff to support Alaska SeaLife Center's fundraising and event activities.

+ Assists with planning and executing auction and donor related activities for the Center's major fundraising events. Specific assistance will include helping to secure auction item donations to create unique auction packages for both in person and virtual events including the creation of descriptions and display of donated items.

+ Maintaining consistent database entry for both pre-event and post event tasks. Post-event follow up includes assisting with appropriate thank you messages and prompt follow up for participants and auction donors.

+ Serves as a member of the Development team functions including fundraising events and membership and donor database management.

+ Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting a positive attitude, good will, cooperation and providing high standards of service.

+ Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures and programs.

+ Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to speak effectively and to be comfortable meeting new people when interfacing with existing and potential new donors. Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficient computer skills including basic Microsoft applications specifically Excel are preferred as well as knowledge on how to perform internet based social media searches.

BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 24 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Atlanta office was established in 1979 and has resettled over 27,000 refugees from 67 countries into the Greater Atlanta area. As the largest refugee resettlement agency in Georgia, the IRC in Atlanta resettles an average of 250 refugees into Georgia annually and provides additional services and assistance to another 2,500 refugees, immigrants and asylees.

SCOPE OF FUNDRAISING INTERN WORK:

This internship is located within the Resource Development Department, whose purpose is to establish strong, mutually-beneficial connections between the community and the IRC in Atlanta in order to garner monetary, in-kind and volunteer resources for refugee clients. The Fundraising Intern will work closely with the Development Assistant and Development Manager towards these goals to enhance the IRC in Atlanta's ability to meet refugee client needs.

This position is an unpaid internship and requires a minimum of 15 hours a week for at least 3 months. This position will require on-site work, and therefore applicants must be located near the Atlanta, GA area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide data collection and research including tracking all forms of funding sources;

Draft written materials for internal and external communications and prepare mass mailings;

Proofread and edit letters of intent and grant proposals;

Assist with updating and maintaining IRC donor database;

Research potential major donor prospects and assist with donor outreach and cultivation;

Provide direct service to refugee clients as needed by the Volunteer Coordinator;

Assist with other Resource Development needs such as donor management, external communications, and fundraising;

Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and special staff development programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

An interest in international and refugee issues;

Effective communication and writing skills;

Strong attention to detail;

Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects;

A strong desire to help people and enthusiasm to work in a multi-cultural setting;
