Furniture Mart USA history

In 1983, a majority of the business was sold to Berkshire Hathaway, headed by legendary investor Warren Buffett.

In 1985, Hickory Furniture Mart decided to open its doors - previously open only to wholesale members of the trade - to the public for the very first time.

The store is in the Western Mall at 41st Street and Western Avenue, which Hinks bought in 1993 and has grown into a major retail center.

Jeff joined NFM in 1996 as a part‑time sales professional.

Irv was also instrumental in the 2000 acquisition of the Homemakers Furniture Store in Des Moines, Iowa, which has expanded to a 215,000 square foot state‑of‑the‑art retail furniture showroom.

Robyn Messerly joined Nebraska Furniture Mart in 2001 as a Team Leader in Information Technology.

Jeff worked on NFM’s expansion into the Kansas City market and was instrumental in the store’s opening on August 1, 2003.

Doug has been with NFM since 2005 and oversees all financial departments and the Continuous Improvement Office.

In 2006, he was named Store Director for the Des Moines location.

In 2012, Ed was named Store Director for the new Texas location which is the largest home furnishing store in the world.

In 2013, Scott completed his degree and was named Store Director for NFM’s Omaha store.

In 2017, Dave was named Director of Flooring where he oversees all merchandising and buying strategies for the Flooring Division.
