2009

By 2009, Perlman had already carved out an impressive reputation for himself in Silicon Valley.

2010

OnLive launched on June 17, 2010, and Gaikai announced a multiyear deal with Electronic Arts that same day.

In 2010 Gaikai was in closed beta, and was planned to use streaming playable games as an advertising tool.

2011

The Ad Network included the Gaikai Affiliate Network which launched on June 2, 2011 reaching over 10 million monthly active users by late 2011.

DuringDuring the summer of 2011, Robert Stevenson and Tim Wilson of Gaikai, a cloud gaming company in Aliso Viejo, California, boarded a 13-hour-plus flight bound for Samsung Digital City in Suwon, South Korea.

2012

In April 2012, Gaikai launched its service embedded inside Facebook, allowing games to be streamed directly in the Facebook canvas.

2013

Remote Play between the PS Vita and PS4 launched with the PS4 in November 2013.

In 2013 it was announced that Gaikai technology would be used in the Sony PlayStation 4.

2014

At the January 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, Sony announced the PlayStation Now (PS Now) game streaming service, powered by technology from Gaikai.

In late 2014, Share Play was launched, allowing users to play with a friend as if you were in the same room.

When these teams joined efforts in 2014, they ended up working on what eventually became Google Stadia.

2015

Sony acquired OnLive in April 2015, only to shut it down four weeks later, while Gaikai had become pivotal to Sony’s development of PlayStation Now.

2018

In October 2018, Google launched a closed beta for its in-development cloud gaming service, which it called “Project Stream.” It let users load up Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in a Chrome browser.

2019

When Google Stadia was announced at GDC 2019, expectations ran high.

2020

Since GeForce Now exited beta in February 2020, the service has signed up over 4 million users who now stream for 15 million hours every month, according to Nvidia.
