Summary The Tissue Culture Intern works closely with the Tissue Culture Lab Manager to support and learn hands-on skills related to greenhouse operations. As the Tissue Culture Intern, you will gain exposure to all facets of our greenhouse mini-tuber operation through greenhouse lab work, research projects, and educational opportunities. Responsibilities In this role, you will: Support the Tissue Culture Lab Manager with maintenance of the clone bank, containing 300+ varieties. Proper use of aseptic technique, assisting the lab team with the propagation and production of high-quality plantlets for greenhouse needs. Assist in the preparation of media and stock solutions. Assist in the production planning process. Learn and use IVS software system for variety and production management. Observe and collect data of growing conditions of plantlets in tissue culture. Assist with the transfer and preparation of plantlets from the lab to the greenhouse. Learn greenhouse processes in other departments. Take on other tasks and responsibilities as needed. Physical Demands Frequently sitting at a lab workspace for long periods of time Delicate work with hand tools. Occasionally lifting objects of up to 25-50 lbs. Reach overhead with both arms occasionally. Fingering, gripping and manipulating fine objects constantly working with plantlets, and for computer work.
