Duties:
Aiding department instructors in setting up needed equipment before laboratory periods and providing supportive help to the instructor (such as mixing solution, preparing and pouring media, and procuring additional equipment) during those periods. Lab equipment, etc should be cleaned up after each lab period unless otherwise notified.
Provide the departmental instructors with help in returning all departmental equipment used (including microscope slides, transparencies, microscope, models, etc.) to their appropriate storage areas.
To adequately keep all laboratory desks, shelves, floor, and sinks, free of unused equipment and debris at all times.
To wash and dry reusable glassware and place in appropriate cabinets or shelves.
Autoclave necessary materials.
Provide watering and maintenance of plants in the laboratories and greenhouse as instructed by the coordinator
Provide adequate maintenance of animals during those periods or animal usage (fish, frogs, protozoans, etc.) as instructed by coordinator.
Grading of clear cut multiple choice laboratory worksheets during those times the above have been completed.
Under no circumstances are the lab assistance to have friends or visitors in the lab or preparation room while on the job.
While, on duty, lab assistants should not be gone from the lab area for more than a few minutes at a time, in case an instructor needs immediate assistance. If the lab assistant has to go to the restroom, etc, or on an errand for the instructor, please leave a note in the preparation room as to where you are, so instructors do not have to look all over the building for you.
In case of illness, etc., please notify lab coordinator or instructor by phone, etc. So other arrangements can be made by instructors for the lab preparations.
