Garage attendant job description

To perform a variety of Facility/Garage supportive functions including customer service, money handling, light maintenance, operating, and maintaining the revenue control equipment.
Physical Requirements

Work will include indoor and outdoor activity within the parking structure. The position requires visual acuity to safely operate a motor vehicle, prepare and review written records and hearing sufficient to accurately perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment in performance of duties. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Work requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing and crouching. Safety precautions will be taken when handling cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials.

Essential Functions

* Assist in the daily operational management of the parking facility.
* ingress and egress of traffic, directing and appropriate lane closure
* facility inspections, monitoring changes in garage activities
* physical safety and movement in and around active traffic
* provide excellent customer interaction and service by answering questions and providing direction

Perform cashiering functions in the parking facility as needed.Assist customers in the use of automated revenue control equipment including ticket dispensers, pay stations and exit station equipment as needed in the event the equipment becomes inoperative..Prepare daily sales reports and cashier bank deposits when required.Collect and categorize daily parking ticket transactions.Stock and maintain all revenue control equipment.Perform janitorial-related tasks necessary to maintain parking facility.Performs first level diagnosis of potential maintenance problems, effecting fire suppression system, drainage, elevators, lighting, electrical, emergency communications and other similar garage systems, and determine appropriate course of action or maintenance as may be required.Reports any interruption of service at the garages to the Supervisor of Parking Garages.The intent of this class description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of classifications given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.Incumbent may be required to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this job description.Garage staff to maintain high standards of service, public interaction, planning and response to the parking garage environment. Minimum Qualifications

* High School or GED. Some college or technical certification is desirable.
* A minimum of one (1) year of experience in public parking facilities, cashiering and/or similar business practices; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
* Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.

Job Based Competencies

* Ability to work flexible shifts in support of staff needs, which may include nights, weekends, and some holidays.
* Ability to learn and operate standard parking revenue control systems and practices utilized within parking garages.
* Ability to troubleshoot revenue control equipment and other equipment within the facility.
* Ability to use a calculator and a fee computer.
* Experienced in office procedures, equipment, and in the use of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
* Ability to deal courteously and fairly with the public.
* Skilled in maintenance and upkeep of assigned facilities and equipment.
* Ability to track information and make mathematical computations and tabulations with speed and accuracy.
* Ability to use correct grammar, spelling, and arithmetic in writing reports and communicating with the public.
* Knowledge of record-keeping procedures and practices.
* Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports neatly and legibly.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all City personnel, County personnel and the general public.
* Capable of communicating with the public and problem solving issues and making sound decisions as they arise.

Manual labor tasks such as loading, unloading, lifting and moving materials

Sandblasting, cleaning and painting wheels

Washing and detailing trucks

General shop housekeeping duties such as sweeping, emptying garbage

Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned

Other Duties:Assist mechanics with retrieving necessary parts and tool

Enter labor lines and parts into repair order computer system

Qualifications:Must be able to communicate effectively with supervision and co-workers

Knowledge of basic hand tools required

Ability to learn and follow established safety guidelines

Ability to solve minor problems and make decisions in absence of management is necessary

Interpersonal and communication skills are required. Must be able to communicate effectively with outside terminals, vendors and customers.

Manual dexterity is regularly required including fingering, grasping, and typing; manual dexterity includes repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers.

Must work in extreme weather conditions

Must tolerate legally permissible exposure to dust and chemicals from sandblasting and painting with proper personal protective equipment.

Periodic overtime may be required.

What You'll Do:

The Garage Attendant performs a variety of tasks to ensure a smooth operation of the parking facility, while delivering service that exceeds our customer/client's expectations. Depending on the needs of the location the Lot Attendant provides customer service, including helping customers with entry/exit transactions, maintaining parking equipment in operating condition with receipt paper and free of jams, providing vehicle jump starts to customers. Company vehicle provided. The Lot Attendant works closely with fellow team members, Operations Manager, and/or Shift Supervisor to ensure that cleanliness as well as safety standards are met at all times

PRINCIPAL DUTIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

• Greet arriving and departing guests in a friendly and courteous manner.
• Act as traffic controller to direct incoming guests to available parking spaces.
• Perform vehicle counts on location throughout shift to ensure garage does not over fill available spaces.
• Perform daily patrols and issue violation warnings to tenants and visitors that violate garage policies.
• Control traffic at entrances and exits as needed; provide assistance to guests who have forgotten where they parked.
• Assist in the maintenance and repair of parking equipment and any general maintenance tasks as directed by the Facility or Operations.
• Use respectful communication to assist guests with their questions, problems, and concerns; relay information to Operations Manager or
• Immediately report any accidents, incidents or safety concerns to Operations Manager or Shift Lead.
• Communicate professionally at all times with guests, client, and teammates.
• Employee must be able to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• At least 18 years of age
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to verbally communicate with guests
• Previous customer service experience, preferred
