Position Summary
The ideal candidate will have a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to learning on the Farm. Prospective interns should come to this program with the desire to learn the art and science of farming. We are committed to instructing individuals in the various techniques employed on our farm. This educational experience will take place during fieldwork sessions and periodic farm walks. Educational field trips are organized and encouraged, and may include visits to other farms, markets, special events or other activities as they become available. We seek dedicated and interested people to learn the craft of farming. The individual will report to the Director of Educational Programming (DOE), Weddington Farm.
Key Focus areas of Internship Program:
Agriculture and Greenhouse
Skills, depending upon interests include greenhouse propagation and production; seeding and planting techniques; irrigation design and operation; compost production and use; soil preparation and conservation; manual and mechanical weed control; cover cropping; harvesting efficiency and quality control.
Facilities Maintenance
Work across the farm maintaining facilities and equipment. Learn basic maintenance and upkeep of buildings and equipment.
Land Management
Learn land management by working with our team to maintain landscapes and trails and manage pests. Emphasis on maintaining horticultural beds (weeding, planting, weed eating, and mowing).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent customer service skills with ability to deliver exceptional customer experience
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a wide variety of people (staff, members, visiting guests) and circumstances in a professional manner
Must be comfortable facilitating other recreational opportunities

The student teacher placement or internship must be a part of a College or University's curriculum that is required for students to become licensed by the State of North Carolina. The student teaching or internship experience must be a credit and grade earning experience required by the College or University.

Volunteers/School Volunteer
Description: The volunteer understands and agrees that their participation is not being performed in the course and scope of regular employment at Cherokee Central Schools and that participation in a certain activity is not in any way required by Cherokee Central Schools or the Cherokee Central Schools Board of Education. The volunteer must understand that participation as a volunteer may be terminated at any time, without cause, and that they may withdraw from participation at anytime for any reason and that withdrawal will not affect any continued employment with the Board of Education.
Job Summary: Volunteers are dedicated to assisting a Cherokee Central School program of their own free will and agree to devote their time and service to participate as a Volunteer in the Cherokee Central Schools. The time and service of the volunteer are given without promise, expectation or receipt of any form of compensation, benefits or other remuneration for their service.
Qualifications: Must be able to pass a drug test and clear a background check on the local and national level.
