Electrical Engineer
Electrical engineer job at Garver, LLC
Garver's growing Electrical Resiliency and Illumination (ERI) team is seeking an Electrical Engineer in our Frisco, Texas office. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for working with our staff on a wide array of facility, building, and airport-related design, construction, project administration, and client management services for a variety of clients. General responsibilities will include electrical design and construction support as required for a variety of projects. Many of the expected assignments will be related to developing infrastructure improvements to facilities, including the investigation, planning, design, and construction of electrical power, lighting, controls, communications, and other special systems. It is the intent for this individual to be cross-trained between facility and aviation related design and construction tasks. The successful designer will need to be self-motivated, and able to work independently on multiple projects with varying schedules and deadlines. As responsibilities grow, this engineer will have the opportunity to work on facilities and airports throughout Garver's service area. The engineer may also perform onsite construction observation duties, construction administration and submittal reviews for projects under construction. Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Working with your electrical team to develop detailed design and specification documents for facilities, including one-line (single line) diagrams, power plans, lighting plans.
Collaborating with the electrical team to conduct power system analyses using specialized software, interpret results to identify system hazards and operational obligations, and develop technical reports to present findings and recommendations.
Coordinating with other support discipline activities on projects, coordinating with regional Garver offices and regulating agencies, construction cost estimating, and quality assurance and control.
Coordinateing schedules, managing multiple assignments concurrently, monitoring project budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standards.
Some regional travel may be required as projects may require field work for site assessment of project locations and support during construction. Occasionally this travel may involve overnight stays. Regional travel is estimated at 10-20% of time, however if desired there will be opportunities to provide full-time or extensive part-time observation early in your career to provide accelerated hands-on learning and provide a grounding for your design work.
Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited school
5-10 years relevant experience in power system design
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including:
Strong communication skills and the ability to present designs and technical information to coworkers and clients in front of groups.
Strong technical writing skills.
Experience AutoCAD, REVIT, and/or Civil 3D.
Self-motivated and able to work independently or collaboratively.
PE license
Preferred Skills
Electrical field investigation experience and/or electricians' license
Technical skills to work, or learn to work, safely and competently with electrical testing equipment.
Previous experience working with power modeling packages such as SKM, ETAP, and EasyPower.
Passion for Electrical, Aviation, and other special system projects.

Responsible for planning and preparing engineered contract documentation for assigned projects, working with or as an electrical Project Manager to meet deadlines, aiding in or providing engineering decisions, and collaborating with other engineers, architects, and/or owners.
Responsible for creating electrical project construction documents, plans, specifications, and design analyses for electrical/lighting system designs.
Responsible for on-site visits, as necessary, to collect existing condition information, attend meetings, respond to construction inquiries, and report on-site observations. Construction activities, when necessary, may include shop drawing reviews, responding to RFI's, and site visits to generate observation reports.
Assist in developing and maintaining client relationships.
What you will need:
Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or ABET accredited equivalent Engineering degree.
Professional Engineering (PE) License in the state of Texas.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design in lighting and power distribution systems for Commercial, Industrial, and/or Institutional projects.
Knowledge of the NEC, IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, and associated NFPA standards.
High-level interpersonal relationship skills, proficiency in communication skills, and organization skills
Experience in Water/Wastewater, Federal, and/or Transportation-related projects is a plus.
