    Job Description Thompson Engineering is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior CAD Designer II to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing complex design and drafting assignments using advanced CAD software to support civil, structural, environmental, or multidisciplinary engineering projects. This position requires a proactive, technically skilled professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to delivering quality and precision in every project. Essential Functions of the Position Create and revise detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models in accordance with project specifications and standards. Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other designers to produce construction documents and design deliverables. Interpret sketches, field notes, and technical data to develop accurate and professional design documents. Apply Thompson Engineering's CAD standards and assist in maintaining consistency and quality across all projects. Support project planning through layout design, quantity take-offs, and coordination with multiple disciplines. Review the work of junior designers for accuracy and provide guidance or mentorship as needed. Participate in project meetings, provide technical input, and communicate effectively across teams. Maintain drawing files, revision control, and project documentation in an organized manner. Minimum Requirements Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, or related field; equivalent work experience will be considered. 7-10+ years of progressive experience as a CAD Designer, preferably within civil, structural, or environmental engineering. Proficiency in CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or Revit, depending on project needs. Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction methods, and technical standards. Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver quality work under deadlines. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse project teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience in mentoring or leading design teams. Familiarity with BIM workflows and 3D modeling best practices. Working knowledge of DOT or other public-sector design requirements. Previous experience in consulting or multi-discipline engineering environment Physical Requirements Must be willing to work overtime as needed by the department needs. Must be able to operate a computer and sit for long periods of time. Ability to work in the field or outside, able to bend, stoop and climb.
