Gary Comer Youth Center company history timeline

2006

The youth center opened in 2006 with the vision of providing an inspiring space for young people to learn, grow and succeed.

2008

On August 18, 2008, Gary Comer College Prep opened with its first class of freshmen.

2011

In August 2011, over 65 sixth grade students were the founding class of Gary Comer College Prep’s middle school, currently based in the Gary Comer Youth Center.

In her marketing roles, Telisa oversaw all branding, marketing and advertising activities for the company, including launching the award-winning "Dreams" campaign in 2011 and its numerous extensions.

2012

The first class of freshmen graduated in 2012 and the campus now serves over 755 students in grades 9-12.

Gary Comer Youth Center celebrates its 10th anniversary; Comer Education Campus officially launched; First 4-year college graduates from GCCP Class of 2012.

2016

Telisa was named Chief Marketing Officer in 2016.

2017

Remington joined the organization in 2017, bringing her unique background in education, athletics, and culinary arts to develop robust culinary arts and nutrition programming.

2018

Holloway's passion for youth & community-led her back to the Gary Comer Youth Center, where from 2018 she advanced from the Youth Employment Manager to now serving in the role of Director of Youth Opportunities.

2019

Telisa was appointed to the board of directors for National Public Radio (NPR) in 2019.

2021

Prior to joining Comer in 2021, she was the Chief Financial Officer at Instituto del Progreso Latino.
