Position provides for the safe, reliable product flow operation of the ET pipeline systems. Controls and optimizes the use of compressors/pumps and pipeline equipment with field personnel to facilitate gas deliveries and liquids commodities (Refined Products, NGL's and Crude Oil). Ensures proper reporting of data to the Partnership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:

* Monitor and maintain pipeline pressures within design criteria and monitor gas/liquids quality at various points
* Work closely with the various departments within ET to execute all changes as they are scheduled
* First contact in an emergency response situation which includes notification of emergency services and ET management
* Gas Control - Work with the pipeline operations group and plants to maximize pipeline throughput which includes coordination between the groups during equipment or pipeline outages
* Liquids Control - Initiates pump and delivery schedule changes, monitors tank inventories, meter counts, line pressures and temperatures. Directs, controls and monitors the delivery and change of product at remote locations utilizing computer controlled field equipment. Utilizes continuous discretion to initiate changes of pump and delivery schedules to maintain overall delivery schedule, product quality, safe operating conditions and a cost-efficient operation. Responsible for monitoring tank inventories and for the appropriate handling of shippers' products both into and out of attended and unattended storage facilities.
* Work with field personnel on basic troubleshooting of communications, SCADA, control valves and other equipment related to control and operations
* Complete daily throughput reports
* Responsible for updating and maintaining the emergency notification and operational call out lists
* Evaluate operational problems and provide recommendations to solve these problems

Required Education:

* High School Diploma or GED

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

* Level C requires a minimum of 0-2 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience
* Level B requires a minimum of 2-4 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience
* Level A requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience

Required Qualifications:

* Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random testing per PHMSA regulations
* Familiar with personal computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, and other programs such as: flow and pressure simulation, velocity, pressure drop, purge and pack, regulators and control valves, relief valves, etc.)
* Proven multitasking, analytical and judgment skills, and extremely detail oriented
* Strong verbal communication skills together with good interpersonal skills
* Some travel and overtime is required
* This is a (12 hour) shift position requiring both day and night shifts including weekends and some holiday work
* Ability to work from an alternate Control Center location in the event of an emergency

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in remote control, pipeline operations or other related field directly related to the Control Center functions
* Basic knowledge of measurement principles and Ga/Liquids hydraulics

Position Description

Join our team as a Controller and help shape the future of North America's energy infrastructure with a career at Kinder Morgan.

The Controller is responsible for the operation of pipeline facilities (compression, pressure and flow control valves, etc.) to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient transportation of natural gas across the pipeline system in compliance with all DOT requirements and the company O&M Manual. In general, the role of the Controller is to remotely monitor and control the operation of their associated pipeline system via SCADA from the Gas Control Center (GCC) and respond to SCADA system alarms to maintain system integrity.

General duties and responsibilities:

+ Adjust the overall pipeline system to ensure that system pressures are maintained at normal levels and that pipeline facilities continue to operate in a safe and reliable manner.

+ Monitor and control the flows, pressures, temperatures, and gas qualities across the system and respond to SCADA system alarms, in accordance with the company's alarm management plan.

+ Adjust pipeline equipment operations in response to daily receipt and delivery requirements, system linepack, and the daily maintenance activities.

+ Monitor gas pressures necessary for system operation and respond as necessary to maintain MAOP compliance in accordance with company O&M manual and any other safety-related operational pressure limitations.

+ Monitor all alarms and respond to such alarms following the established protocol, including documentation and callout procedures.

+ Contact the appropriate operations location supervisor or designated operations personnel on call to confirm automated adjustments, investigate/validate operating parameters, make manual adjustments, or make corrections to maintain normal pipeline operations.

+ Document all relevant operational information during the shift and subsequently communicate the operating objectives and system status as part of a scheduled shift change briefing or within a shift due to breaks or other reasons.

+ Draft and distribute emergency response communiqués utilizing Kinder Morgan's emergency response notification system.

+ Maintain communication with gas control management/supervision to keep them informed of the operational status of the pipeline system.

+ Maintain communication with other control room personnel on shift and when changing shifts to keep them informed of the operational status of the pipeline system.

+ Complete and maintain the necessary Operator Qualification (OQ) and mandatory training as required by the company and maintain these qualifications via follow up training and/or requalification at required intervals.

+ Operate the associated pipeline system in accordance with the OQ requirements established by the company.

+ Assist in the troubleshooting of SCADA, communications and electronic gas measurement systems issues, as well as issues with various operating tools used by the control room.

+ Assist pipeline operations specialist's in managing imbalances with customers while delivering a high level of customer service.

+ Interface with gas schedulers and maintain collaborative inter-departmental and cross-functional working relationships with all members of the department and with field employees.

+ Ensure all internal and external customer issues are managed based on established procedures/protocols.

Position Requirements

Education:

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Associate's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent work experience with a natural gas transmission system preferred.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

+ Excellent customer service skills.

+ Must be able to have continual phone conversations with other pipeline controllers, supervisors, schedulers, field personnel, customers, and operators of interconnects.

+ Must be able to handle stressful situations and effectively manage operations occurring simultaneously on different pipelines.

+ Computer skills and knowledge required.

+ Ability to multi-task.

+ Familiarity with SCADA systems highly preferred.

+ Prior control center experience in the pipeline or natural gas industry highly preferred.

+ Basic knowledge of pipeline operations, including station operations and pipeline hydraulics helpful.

+ Related work experience to include field technician, meter inspector, station operator, controls technician, pipeline and mechanical work desirable.

Certifications, Licenses and Registration Requirements:

+ Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

+ Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, which includes holidays, weekends, night shifts and overtime with minimal time away from console during shift (12-hour shift rotation is required to maintain a 24/7/365 operation).

+ Work schedule change may occur with little advance notice.

+ Occasional unscheduled overtime may be required.

+ Open space office within the secured control room environment.

+ Occasional but infrequent travel away from the assigned work location may be required.

Job level will commensurate with experience and skill set.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report (as applicable to the position), after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Position is subject to random drug testing as required by DOT.

Pay range is $31.00 to $44.00 per hour. This position includes a discretionary annual incentive plan. Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
