Job Summary

Dominion Energy North Carolina, is a regulated public utility engaged primarily in transporting, distributing and selling natural gas to approximately 600,000 customers throughout a 28-county service area in the north central, piedmont and western areas of North Carolina.

This Co-Op Gas Technologist position located in Apex, North Carolina is a diverse position within the Engineering, Construction and Transmission Operations Department. The Department is responsible for the planning, designing and construction of natural gas pipeline system facilities; operations and maintenance of transmission pipelines; and other tasks necessary to provide reliable, affordable, clean energy to its customers.

Preferred candidates will be interested in working the Gas Distribution organization at Dominion Energy and would be willing to work in/relocate to North Carolina.

The Co-op Gas Technologist will learn about natural gas utility engineering by working with all areas of the Department including: Project Engineering, System Planning, Construction and Transmission Operations. The experience for the Co-Op Engineer will consist of one full year of work divided into three segments: a spring semester (2023), a fall semester (2023), and a summer session (2024). These work semesters alternate with school semesters. Part time work may be available during school semester rotations.

The Co-op Gas Technologist is tasked with job duties of a variable nature to meet current and future company initiatives and regulatory requirements. Job requirements include, but are not limited to, creating Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and/or GIS/ESRI drawings of proposed pipelines and stations, researching information for system upgrades, permitting new natural gas mains, writing procedures, creating and populating spreadsheets and databases, performing cost estimates for construction projects, and utilizing GIS/ESRI to map gas facilities. Additional job functions may include but are not limited to: supporting and communicating with DENC's Marketing Department, pipeline integrity management program support, and field preview and/or verification of construction installations.

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below.

* Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below.

Education Requirements

Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, and be in the process of obtaining a 2 year technical college degree in an applicable program discipline including CAD, with a minimal GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Candidates must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history, a reliable means of transportation, and be willing to live within reasonable commuting distance of the Apex, North Carolina office.

Other Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office environment.

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Some travel across service territory with no overnight stay may also be required (travel expenses reimbursed).

This position reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS). + Properly operate and maintain GCCS in a timely and cost-effective manner to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance. GCCS operation and maintenance includes:

+ Calibrate, operate and maintain sensitive electronic data collection devices necessary to optimize LFG collection from the wellfield.

+ Collect and manage data entry from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring locations.

+ Implement the GCCS preventative maintenance plan.

+ Operate and maintain liquid management system pneumatic or electric driven pumps (troubleshoot and determine liquid levels within liquid containment structures and or LFG collection wells).

+ Perform wellfield valve/vacuum adjustments, data collection and maintenance; interpret data

+ Use Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) piping materials and associated equipment to perform maintenance on piping materials.

+ Complete the WM Landfill Gas Technician I Training.

+ Develop basic understanding of environmental regulations related to GCCS operations and develop the ability to work within an environmentally regulated industry.

+ Follow job related health and safety requirements and procedures
