Job Description GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Staking Technician II in the Hi-Line Engineering department. The initial work locations are Southern Alabama and Mississippi. The role plays a vital part in helping maintain system reliability and resiliency. The ideal candidate will take a hands-on role in conducting in-depth system inspections for one of our major clients, ensuring that all aspects of the plant infrastructure the rigorous standards for safety, compliance, and reliability. Most of the work is outside and requires a highly motivated individual. Responsibilities: Performing detailed inspections of every pole within the assigned system, carefully evaluating the condition of each structure and identifying any construction- or maintenance-related deficiencies that may impact performance, safety, or long-term integrity. Assessing and documenting potential code violations in accordance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), ensuring that all findings reflect the most up-to-date standards and best practices. Recording observations, deficiencies, and violations directly into the company-provided tablet using specialized client software, maintaining accurate, organized, and comprehensive digital records. Submitting collected data to a direct supervisor on a weekly basis for quality control review and eventual delivery to the client, supporting a smooth workflow and timely project completion. Communicating clearly and professionally with supervisors, clients, and-when appropriate-members of the public regarding project details, field conditions, and inspection findings. Communicate with team daily to ensure all tasks have been completed. Ensure engineering and construction standards are followed throughout the design, constructability of the design, and compliance with RUS and NESC specifications as necessary. Responsible for interfacing with landowners to obtain easements and/or permission for the construction of the electric facilities. Prepare construction sketches and complete staking sheets on forms or by use of computer software packages. The Hi-Line Engineering (Hi-Line) department is a distribution and transmission design group at GDS Associates, Inc. that provides system design and planning services for electric utilities throughout the United States. Hi-Line's services include medium voltage design for overhead pole lines and underground power systems, system planning and analysis, transmission design, substation design, system modeling and load flow analysis, and specialized design services and general consulting services related to the design, construction, and operation of electric power systems. Requirements, Experience and Education: Technical or associate's degree in related field with at least five (5)years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education andexperience. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: Ability to identify and gather field data on aerial electric distribution lines and structures via technology such as GPS survey equipment, data collection units, laser range finders, and cameras. Ability to perform calculations on distribution structures and lines. In-depth knowledge of RUS construction units and construction specifications. Knowledge of property deeds, right-of-way easements and acquisition. Knowledge in obtaining permits for construction. Working knowledge of GPS technology and e-mail Proficient in the use of pole line design software. Ability to cut right of way and carry a 20-pound pack several miles in rough, uneven terrain. Ability to drive stakes to mark location of future poles and anchor placement. Ability to work extra hours when necessary to meet project requirements. ERM is hiring an Environmental Permitting Advisor in Richmond, Virginia to support a key power clients Transmission and Distribution team. The Environmental Permitting Advisor will perform as an extension of staff duties related to environmental permitting and the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) processes for Electric Transmission (DEV ET) projects located in Virginia. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) limited-term role with a duration of 12 months, extendable. Hybrid work option to work 2-3 days in the office and the remaining days from home. The primary focus for the consultant is to prepare, review, and edit environmental portions of Virginia State Corporation Commission Applications in support of obtaining a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for transmission line projects. Job Duties Include: Be an active participant in SCC project team meetings, providing guidance on environmental permitting and programmatic implications of transmission line route alternatives which include but are not limited to permit triggers, permit schedules, project implications, etc. Support the development of Virginia State Corporation Commission Applications by participating in project meetings, routing discussions, application drafting and finalization, ensuring consistency of environmental programmatic aspects across applications. The consultant will also support evidentiary hearings and public meetings. Support the client team in maintaining a consistent program across all SCC applications as the E&S lead assigned to SCC projects. Coordinate with project managers to understand the scope of new and replacement electric transmission projects and apply knowledge of environmental regulations to determine what, if any, environmental permits are required. Collaboration with external vendors/consultants to prepare, review and comment on permit applications to align with program expectations to support securing environmental permits or clearances required for projects to be constructed. Communicating with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary environmental permits, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Conveying environmental compliance requirements from local, state, and federal permits to project and field teams. Providing technical assistance to site(s)/project(s) in the construction phase to ensure environmental compliance. Interpretation of environmental permits and regulations to ensure compliance of dates and project requirements are met. Independently analyze, identify, and develop compliance strategies crucial for project development. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related degree preferred. 5-7 years linear permitting experience in Virginia, experience with electric transmission preferred. Experience supporting Virginia State Corporation Commission processes / procedures in pursuit of obtaining a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN). Experience compiling and reviewing environmental permits related to wetlands (including threatened and endangered species and cultural and historical resource coordination), erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management. ERM is hiring Lead Wetland Delineators for projects located across the US. The role of a wetland delineator requires technical skills, as well as strong organizational and communication skills. Field crews will conduct fieldwork in a safe manner in alignment with ERM and the client's safety expectations. This is a full-time (60 hours/week), limited-term role with a duration of 3 months. RESPONSIBILITIES: Delineating wetlands per the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and applicable Regional Supplements. Documenting OHWM and geophysical characteristics of waterbodies. Conducting habitat assessments. Data entry, data review, and GPS use. Survey report compilation. ERM is hiring a Community Outreach Liaison in Buckingham County, VA. The role of a Community Outreach Liaison is critical to the success of infrastructure construction. This role is an on-site field position that will collaborate closely with project management, communications, external and government affairs, client, and consulting staff throughout the project planning and permitting phases, aiming to facilitate effective communication with landowners, community leaders, and other interested stakeholders. This is a part-time (10-20 hours per week), limited-term role for 1 year, extendable. The Liaison will take directions from communications, external affairs, and government affairs clients and consulting staff and will support on-the-ground, day-to-day communication between the project team and local communities. The Liaison should independently troubleshoot issues as they arise and act as a resource for the community; all to gain local insight that may inform project development and impact mitigation. Responsibilities Coordinate with the project team and government affairs staff for 1:1 and small group stakeholder meetings, and project study area tours. Serve as project representative available during select office hours to be made available to the public to ask questions and learn more about the project. ·Attend various community meetings and events to talk with key stakeholders and community members and gain insight into perceptions and concerns associated with the project. The ideal candidate will have experience developing and supporting implementation of OSHA requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, Job Hazard Analysis/ Risk Assessments, Emergency Response Plans, Behavioral Safety Programs and Contractor Safety Management. ERM is hiring experienced Construction Safety Managers to provide on-site support for our key pharmaceutical client in Richmond, VA. In this critical role, you will be responsible for providing on-site observation of construction activities from an EHS perspective, ensuring health and safety compliance with applicable regulations and existing company standards, and contributing to an environment where employee health and safety are preserved. You will be present during all site activities and responsible for all health and safety activities, and the delegation of duties to any other project team members. On-site observation of construction activities from an EHS perspective. Documentation of activities with respect to required EHS performance. Train on-site workers on EHS oversight program requirements. Train on-site subcontractors on EHS oversight program requirements. Report on whether project staff and trade contractors are complying with the Client's safety procedures and are working in accordance with the approved project-specific safety plan. This role is an on-site field position that will collaborate closely with project management, communications, external and government affairs, client, and consulting staff throughout the project planning and permitting phases, aiming to facilitate effective communication with landowners, community leaders, and other interested stakeholders.
