GECU company history timeline

1932

In 1932, 11 El Paso civil servants pooled $5 each to form a credit union.

1954

Chartered in 1954 for employees of General Electric Aircraft Engines, we’ve grown to one of the largest credit unions in the state of Ohio.

1966

The first member signed up in June 1966, and the first loan was made later that year.

Beginning with an initial total of deposits of just $35, the credit union ended 1966 with assets of $3237.54.

1969

Our first board president was Sam Yelic, and he served in that capacity until January 1969 , when assets of the new credit union organization were just over $26,000.

2016

Now (as of 2016) the credit union has around 6500 members, representing over 5,000 Wayne County households.
