As a Controls Engineer Intern, you would be accountable for controls engineering and electrical support for industrial manufacturing equipment. These tasks would teach you electrical root causing analysis and problem solving as well as leadership skills to provide technical support and direction to support personnel/skilled trades within the organization. Quality and safety are extremely meaningful to us, so enforcing safe work practices is the highest priority and implementing objectives for ergonomics, health/safety, and housekeeping, which means that you would have to investigate system and equipment problems and provide technical input in problem resolution.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Leads electrical projects including new or operations improvements, and periodic repair and replacement
+ Participates in functional area plant meetings and related activities to represent engineering and to assist in reaching the plant's performance goals
+ Develops cost estimates, investment forecasts, business cases, appropriation requests and plans for minor project activity
+ Utilizes statistical methods for continuous improvement on plant systems
+ Develops and monitors planning timetables and projects schedules
+ Coordinates and communicates the development of changes to improve conditions for the assembly process
+ Programming of manufacturing technology (PLC, robotics, HMI)
+ Analyzes product, process and technology to determine the best methods of manufacture
+ Assists in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes

Required Education & Experience: * Post-secondary Education (MET or IE preferred) * Minimum 5 years' experience in engineering with concentration in IE or process engineering preferred * Fluent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) * Extensive knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks)
* Basic knowledge of Ergonomics
* At least intermediate knowledge of Time Study Analysis
Essential Functions:
* Manage production BOMs and routings
* Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
* Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency, using AutoCAD and other drafting tools.
* Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities. Requisition tooling, capital and tryout material for projects. Compile justification for any new capital expenditure requests.
* Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
* Communicate with management and user personnel to develop production and design standards.
* Study operations sequence, material flow, functional statements, organization charts and project information to determine worker functions and responsibilities. Value analysis and value engineering ideas.
* Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
* Evaluate capability of production equipment and review engineering drawings for manufacturing feasibility
* Assess and implement continuous improvement projects in relation to current or future project planning
Work Environment:
* 50% Office environment, 50% plant floor
