This is an outpatient opportunity with after-hours calls and Saturday office hours shared between providers. Calls only reach the physician after being screened by our excellent after-hours nurse triage phone line which handles more than 90% of the calls. This location is part of the Akron Children's Northern Region bringing together pediatric primary care, over a dozen of the most in-demand pediatric specialty care practices, and rehabilitation services in one convenient location.

Job Description:
The Basic Outpatient Preservice Specialist performs all outpatient scheduling, pre-registration and insurance verification for non-invasive, routine care services. Performs complete and accurate patient appointment scheduling, account pre-registration and insurance verification functions either via electronic media collection or telephonic interview methods; works to provide patient information which maximizes reimbursement, achieves collection ratios, meets accounts receivable (AR) goals, and provides timely and through information to all other providers and users of patient data. Verifies insurance requirements, obtains and understands insurance benefits. Requests any non-covered patient collectibles such as coinsurance, deductibles, and copayments prior to service; Ensures that patients meet financial requirements; Provides general information to hospital users, patients and families; Communicates effectively to service delivery areas to maximize patient flow and customer service outcomes both internally and externally.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school graduate or equivalent required.
2. Knowledge of medical terminology required.
3. Knowledge of patient billing, collection policies & procedures, guidelines and/or standards.
4. Two (2) years of previous customer service experience required.
5. Previous experience in hospital or physician office in Patient Financial Services or Registration preferred.
6. Experience in internet, internet navigation, word processing, standard computer manipulation.
7. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
8. Excellent communication skills, oral and written skills.
9. Ability to deal with confrontation.
10. Ability to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships with patients, families, physicians, nurses, co-workers, supervisors and others.
11. Ability to analyze data, perform multiple tasks and work independently.
12. Must be able to understand and comply with policies and procedures.
13. Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
14. Ability to work collaboratively with a high-performance team of professionals in partnership toward common objectives
15. Knowledge of information systems and healthcare applications.
