The Engineering Manager - Production, as part of the Expeditionary Leadership team, is responsible for the safety, quality, and oversight of the Production Engineering Team across the Expeditionary facilities. This is a hands-on position and will be responsible for overseeing all technical activities of assigned projects and programs, including planning, scheduling, and managing personnel and production engineering work to ensure effective coordination and execution. The Engineering Manager - Production must possess sufficient technical knowledge of their programs to identify problems, provide guidance to staff, and ensure the work product is completed on time and within budget and fulfills requirements. Required to proactively lead improvement initiatives. This position is responsible for providing manufacturing engineering, testing, and production support to facilitate the successful development of new systems and products, or modifications and revisions to current systems and products. The Engineering Manager - Production position offers a variety of engineering opportunities, including fixture design, analysis, 3D modeling, plant layout, line layout, process evaluation, machine programming, management, prototyping, and testing. Position is 100% on-site. Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise and develop a team of 5-10 engineers and designers across multiple sites. Completes annual performance review process for direct reports. Sets and achieves goals and assists direct reports in doing likewise. Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner, makes and keeps commitments, and expects the same of direct reports. Complies with Engineering Playbook, Make vs Buy, and other ISO Standards and works to optimize its content. Manages budgets, costs, and schedule inputs for design assignments, participates in technical reviews. Manage production support changes (ECR/ECO's) and team priorities. Support proposal, technical write-ups, and provide quotes to Sales and BD. Participates in new product release processes and drives to the production floor. Demonstrates understanding of applicable MIL and commercial standards essential for equipment design and compliance (preferred). Hands-on building, fitting, and testing prototypes. Designs, develops, analyzes, documents, and supports the manufacture of products, systems, or subsystems both for Quality Testing and for Production Builds. Checks drawings and designs to ensure compliance with company and design specifications. Adheres to and trains to company revision control practices and ISO processes. Incorporates engineering requirements into planning and work. Directs technical activities to instruct production personnel in the building of the product. Implements new and/or improved methods, processes, and work instructions to lower costs and improve productivity and efficiencies. Implements and supports lean methodologies. Implements tools expected by leadership. Creates and modifies routings, BOMs, and work instructions. Interfaces internally with all facility associates, management, and staff. Proactively identifies and mitigates risk. Reviews engineering specifications and requirements and, under direction, develops best methods to support. Conducts independent research of new methods, technologies, and equipment and makes recommendations for implementation. Communicates clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required. BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Technology, or similar. Experience with sewing machines, CNC cutting equipment, metal fabrication, and RF or hot air welding processes. Experience designing assembly improvement fixtures for production and testing. Experience in DFMA analysis, time study, and test reports preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Routinely punctual. Mechanically inclined and able to problem-solve with little information. Ability to work autonomously, prioritize work assignments, and multi-task to meet deadlines. Ability to offer their own opinions and commentaries while being flexible and responsive to constructive feedback by managers and peers. Application of technical principles/techniques from established practices, as well as a functional knowledge/understanding of mechanical engineering processes, techniques, and practices to quickly/accurately perceive the fit, form, function, and manufacturability of design. SAP experience a plus. LEAN/Six Sigma certification a plus. PC-based computer experience, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is essential; SAP experience a plus. Basic knowledge/understanding of industry standards (ISO, etc.) and codes. Strong, proven organizational and time management skills. Strong, proven problem-solving and analytical skills. Possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail. Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees, and managers at all levels within the company. Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office). Ability to travel between Expeditionary Facilities is required.

    Full-time Description Plant Production Supervisor Department: Plant Science & Conservation Supervisor: Horticulture Manager Supervises: Volunteers, Gardeners, and Horticulture Interns FLSA Salary Classification: Full-time, Exempt Revision Date: November 2024 Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule. Work will require regular weekend, and occasional evening and holiday hours depending on the season. Position Summary: Execute the propagation and production of plants for collections, fundraisers, and education programs to align with Huntsville Botanical Garden mission, conservation and sustainability initiatives in collaboration with the Plant Sciences team and other internal stakeholders. Manage nursery and greenhouse operations, and schedule and manage staff and volunteers involved with growing in greenhouse and nursery area. Essential Functions: Grow herbaceous, woody, and aquatic plants for garden collections and displays, source and produce a variety of commercially unavailable native plants to support horticultural operations, sustainability initiatives, plant collections, fundraisers, education programs, and events. Manage the daily operations of and maintain nursery and greenhouse areas including weed eating, mowing, spraying herbicide, heating, cooling, irrigation and structural maintenance. Assist the Facilities department with planning repairs related to greenhouse structures. Monitor growing conditions and oversee changes in humidity, moisture, temperature and cultivation procedures to ensure conformance with quality control standards. Plan, implement, and document growing procedures, disease and pest diagnosis, and treatment of plants in the greenhouse and nursery spaces. Advises and consults project team on the Garden's Plant Sale budgets, inventory, growing spaces, and cultural needs, working together with Plant Sciences, Guest Experience, and Marketing to improve revenue generation, best practices, and all other needs for Garden's fundraisers and sales. Improve the quality of plants grown in-house and sold at Huntsville Botanical Garden. Identify trends and forecast future space and resources for plant production, research needs and costs to inform the annual operating and plant sale budgets and grant proposals. Train and lead supervised staff and volunteers in greenhouse and nursery production, cultural practices, IPM, record keeping, and pesticide safety. Maintain comprehensive inventory and records of essential growing procedures and techniques, while monitoring results. Develop growing procedures and cultivation techniques for target species on which there is little available information and perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors in nursery & greenhouse production, horticulture or related field from an accredited program and 2+ years of relevant experience in plant propagation and crop cycle scheduling. Must possess a valid driver's license, which is subject to insurability and an annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Word and Excel. Must have or be able to obtain an OTPC Applicators License within 6 months of hire. Success Factors: Ability to organize and delegate work, create schedules and crop cycles, and problem solve. Decision making skills and the ability to prioritize. Knowledge of basic plant culture and disease/insect pest diagnostics in greenhouse and nursery settings under northern Alabama weather conditions. Ability to identify major plant genera and species common to Southeastern North America and familiarity with the names, characteristics, and growing requirements of a wide range of cultivated and native plants. Training and/or experience in greenhouse environmental and irrigation control systems is critical for this position. Experience collecting and analyzing biological and cultural data will aid success in this role. Practical experience with safely operating job-related equipment and tools, including office equipment, two-way radio, truck, electric carts, fertigation equipment, environmental controls, and horticultural hand tools, weed eaters, blowers, mowers, and skid steer.
