The individual in this position will execute the customer's purchase of rail freight transportation by coordinating all aspects of the customer's service. He or she will communicate and arrange activities with customers, marketing, transportation, and all other applicable departments and entities. He or she will also work to develop progressive customer relationships by proactively focusing supporting the customer's business success as a means of sustaining a railroad's profitability. This individual will be accountable for finding solutions to complex issues in-line with established expectations under the direction of the departmental supervisor/manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Act as point person for all communication to and from customer regarding service; key contact for all service performance issues.
Ability to resolve complex service and system issues, communicating the results clearly.
Coordinate and maintain ongoing dialogue between departments.

Waybill customer shipments accurately (both inbound and outbound).

Point of contact to coordinate and communicate new customer information to applicable internal departments.
Anticipate and coordinate car movements on behalf of the customer, planning for how movements in one area of the railroad will affect other areas.
Grow relationship with the customer, focusing on how to help their business to succeed as the means to ensure the success of our railroad.
Take ownership of solving customer problem and developing opportunities to add value to our service to increase service profitability.
Exhibit sense of urgency and communicate to marketing personnel all customer initiatives.
Actively engage in the company's safety culture.
Cover non-assigned shifts in the event of vacations, illness, or as other business needs arise.

Embark on a fulfilling career at BNSF Railway, where joining our Engineering Department means contributing to the backbone of our nation's rail infrastructure. The Signal Apprentice is an apprenticeship for the positions of Signalman, Signal Maintainer and/or Shop Signalman.
This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position that is subject to on-call (24/7), overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may vary (5 - 8/hr days followed by 2 days off; 4 - 10/hr days followed by 3 days off; 8 - 10/hr days followed by 6 days off).
Travel is required up to 90% outside of the headquarter location on and off the seniority district. Travel may also be required to (and remain at) job sites for extended periods, sometimes for days or weeks at a time, in the designated seniority region. Travel costs will be covered according to the collective bargaining agreement when traveling outside of the seniority district.
Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job and classroom training and will include travel to the BNSF Training Center. Successful candidates will enter an apprenticeship program, pass progressive exams, and demonstrate field proficiency. Pay rates will increase with each completed step of qualification.
Key responsibilities may include:
Performing construction, reconditioning, installation, maintenance, repair, inspection, and testing of wayside signal devices.
Loading and unloading supplies, installing underground and overhead cables including trenching and hand digging, and working around or operating heavy machinery.
Working on or around highway grade crossings, climbing signal masts, bridges, and ladders, and handling cables and wires for electrical connections.
Using various power and non-power tools, including shovels, picks, axes, sledgehammers, micrometers, voltmeters, amp meters, computer-based systems, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, tape measures, drills, and power saws.
Operating equipment (backhoes, trenchers, boom trucks, and directional boring machines).
Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

SUMMARY:
The person in this position manages projects and employees in the maintenance of the locomotive or railcar fleet. He or she ensures that all G&W safety rules and practices for Mechanical Department employees are followed explicitly. This person manages the maintenance and repair of locomotives and railcars so that they meet FRA standards, while reducing life-cycle costs and increasing reliability and availability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure and audit compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety and operations, per AAR and FRA regulations
Maintain employee safety records regarding scheduled safety-rule presentations, job briefings, and safety films; prepare schedules for these events
Assist in the work process to maintain locomotive periodic-maintenance schedules and advise Transportation when locomotives must be directed to the shop
Assist in the work process to manage bad-order railcars to ensure they are moved to the shop and repaired in a timely manner to limit car-hire and down time
Certify locomotive maintenance files to comply with FRA regulations and G&W rules for record retention
Coordinate and schedule activities related to car and/or locomotive repair to ensure there is available manpower, shop space, and material to complete the task
Assist in preparing budget and working within budgetary restraints
Assist in developing capital spending plan
Maintain optimum inventory level to support repair activities
Coordinate employee safety and technical and environmental training

Job Summary
Intermodal Service Employees (ISE) are responsible for safely performing activities and completing processes that place customer freight for movement on a train from the origin to the CSX Intermodal Terminal destination across our network. The ISEs will also be responsible for ensuring the availability of our customers freight for pick up after arriving at the destination terminal.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
The activities and responsibilities fall into four broad categories (Securement, Yard/Lift Operations, Clerical and other)
Securement tasks include: Ascending and descending rail cars. Inspection and securement of trailers, containers and intermodal flatcars. Assisting lift operators in the proper positioning of equipment. Lifting of interbox connectors (IBC) and related accessories. Operation of powered vehicles known as IBC carts. Working in a high-paced outdoor environment around moving equipment and vehicles
Yard and Lift operations include: Operating utility tractors (hostlers) to move equipment on the terminal and operating lift machines that place and remove equipment to and from railcars. Connecting, moving, and parking of chassis, trailers and containers on terminal property. Inspection of equipment for condition and operational readiness. Ascending and descending vehicle ladder/stairs. Connecting and disconnecting airlines (gladhands). Manually operating crank handle to raise and lower chassis landing gear legs. Operation of various lift equipment configurations to load and unload trailers and containers to/from railcars, stacks, ground or chassis. Prolonged sitting in equipment cabs. Use of joystick controls, radios, equipment displays and onboard computers. Lifting and lowering containers and trailers from elevated heights safely and efficiently
Clerical duties include: Utilize Microsoft Office systems. Utilize computer systems to obtain and/or input information regarding intermodal car and/or equipment. Knowledge of hazmat requirements and ability to respond to minor spills as necessary
Other duties require: Knowledge of FRA and AAR securement regulations and railway line clearance requirements. The ability to work positively and contribute to a team focused on customer service and accomplishing productivity targets. Ability to identify or analyze defective components and indicate the necessary corrective action. Inspection and application of end-of-train device and performance of airbrake tests Ability to clean, lubricate and maintain securement devices and other special intermodal equipment
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
Pay Rates:
Pay as of July 1, 2024 is $29.33/hr (@ 90% until qualified (may take up to 8 months) - $26.39/Hourly).
Training:
You are expected to attend one week of paid training at the Atlanta Training Center (ATC) in Atlanta, GA. New hires must maintain an 85% passing rate on quizzes and tests to remain in training. Failure to maintain the 85% average will result in new hires being released from the program and their offer will be rescinded. On-the-job training begins immediately following the successful completion of training at the ATC.
Minimum Qualifications:
18 years of age or older
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
One year experience working in a heavy industrial environment
One year experience operating heavy machinery
Three years of outdoor work experience
Physical Requirements:
Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb
Physical agility, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and walking
Walk long distances over uneven terrain
Driving a tractor/trailer combination in an industrial setting
Moderately heavy to heavy industrial work
Must meet color vision and hearing requirements as described in FRA Regulations
Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
Job Requirements:
Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, or safety-toe boots
Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations

Must pass all required assessments
Must pass a background screening
Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test

The Engineering Intern will support efforts to prepare engineering data for multiple upcoming projects. This includes, but is not limited to, developing drawings and calculations for new railroad bridges, updating structural and track standards, contributing to the High-Wide and Heavy repository, assisting with public project agreement routing, and supporting invoicing for Section 130 projects.
Responsibilities:
Perform calculations and develop drawings for new bridge projects.
Update bridge and track standards by researching best practices and developing calculations to create consistent standards across the network.
Collaborate with the Public Projects Manager to route agreements, research potential projects, and assist with billing/invoicing.
Support the structural engineering team on various miscellaneous projects.
Provide regular progress updates to the supervisor.
Required Skills and Experience:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD is preferred, but not required.
Required Education and Credentials:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a related major.
Must have a valid drivers license.
