    AB duties vary from vessel to vessel and from watch to watch. The Master sets the watch-standing schedule and posts the duty list for the crew. The Master or his relief must ensure that the AB stands the proper watch and performs the proper duties. These may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Operational Duties Making up the tow; Dropping, spotting and switching barges at docks; Assisting the vessel and tow in making locks; Standing lookout, or riding the head of the tow as a lookout, and; Performing the various tasks necessary to carry out the above, such as making a coupling, operating winches and ratchets and line handling, including splicing and throwing lines. 2. Maintenance Duties Chipping and painting vessel and tow; Repairing of flame screens, cleaning P/V valves, greasing winches, etc., in accordance with the barge checklist distributed by the Barge Maintenance Department; Dewatering the barges as necessary Develop a complete knowledge of all heaters; Troubleshoot barge problems; Develop a complete knowledge of all barges 3. Housekeeping Duties Cleaning the boat; Cleaning quarters, including personal quarters; Cleaning the wheelhouse and galley; Cleaning the heads and companionways; Performing other cleaning chores as directed by the Wheelhouse operator on duty, and; Cooking when needed. 4. Safety Duties Reporting any hazardous or unsafe condition to the Master and making "on-the-spot" corrections when capable. Completing all training required and participation in Safety Programs Job Requirements: Ability to train on barge transfers including loads and discharges from start to finish Ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of heater operation, including start up and shut down situations and partlow settings; hose handling, including hook-up, disconnection and proper slinging; re-packing pumps, per barge maintenance report, and barge maintenance. Must advise the office of anticipated crew shortages or overages immediately so as to enable the office to make timely manning adjustments among the fleet. Must instruct every crewmember to be respectful and professional towards all people at fleets, docks, locks etc. Must set the watch standing schedule for the wheelhouse and crew, ensuring that all crewmembers work according to watch standing regulations. Must post station bills and muster cards and ensure that all crewmembers are familiar with their respective stations and duties in case of an emergency. Complete all required training, disciplinary action forms, evaluations and other personnel-related documentation. Ensure that all injuries, or illnesses of crewmembers occurring on vessel be reported. Responsible for setting the safety culture on the vessel and ensure all members comply with the Company Safety Program and all training requirements. Conduct monthly drills and safety meetings in accordance with company policies and procedures. Responsible for reporting all accidents and spills on any Company tow or boat, other vessels or tows, fixed objects such as buoys, or damage which results in cargo loss, contamination, spills or pollution. Required Skills, Experience, and Education: Valid Driver's License. Must have a U.S. Coast Guard license as Master Operator, uninspected towing vessels, endorsed for service on inland waters. Hold a valid personal Radio License issued by FCC. Radar Observer Certificate. Must attend an Advanced Pilot Management (APM) course every 5 years.

Essential Job Duties Serve as Person in Charge (PIC). Perform liquid cargo transfer operations in a safe and efficient manner. Inspect the barge prior to transfer operations. Connect and disconnect hoses. Align and secure valves. Check engines and pumps prior to transfer operations. Monitor cargo flow and mooring lines throughout the transfer operations. Conduct soundings on liquid cargo tanks using gauge tape or gauge stick. Complete and submit paperwork, including the Declaration of Inspection (DOI). Train and evaluate Deckhands. Perform general maintenance and housecleaning on vessel, tow, and equipment. Maintain cleanliness of vessel, tow, and equipment. Maintain equipment in good working order and condition. Maintain safe, sanitary living and working conditions. Maintain barges in tow. Offload trash and used filters. Clean, scrape, chip, and paint vessel Maintain Engine Room, grease winches and other moving parts, oil and lube changes. Repair flame screens. Make and break tow. Assist the vessel and tow in making locks. Drop, spot, and switch barges at docks. Make couplings. Operate winches and ratchets. Line-handling and rigging. Stand as lookout, or ride the head of the tow as a lookout. Communicate via a VHF radio. Cook and prepare meals. Clean all areas inside and out of the vessel as directed Develop knowledge of heaters. Troubleshoot problems. Live and work in close quarters onboard a vessel for weeks at a time. Adhere to and comply with company and safety policies, United States Coast Guard Regulations, and environmental laws and regulations. Minimum Qualifications At Least 18 Years of Age. Reliable Transportation to and from Work. High School Diploma (or its equivalent). Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Basic Computer Skills. Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with Tankerman-Person in Charge (PIC) Endorsement and Dangerous Liquids Endorsement. Physical Requirements: All offers of employment are conditioned on passing a drug screen (a DOT test, and a non-DOT hair test) and a fit-for-duty physical examination. John W.
