ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Assesses physical condition and nursing needs of inpatients, outpatients and ER patients. * Plans for patient's total care needs in cooperation with members of the medical care team and personnel of other departments. * Performs daily charge nurse duties. Implements, delegates and supervises nursing care in patient care units by overseeing LPNs, patient care technicians and health unit coordinators. * Adds or modifies services as determined by outcomes evaluation * Communicates clearly with patients, staff and doctors. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves them in the formation of the plan of care. * Assists in orientation of new personnel to units. * Maintains records of medical and nursing treatments and related services executed by nursing staff through appropriate and accurate documentation and utilization of the electronic medical record. * Checks crash cart and defibrillator daily. Performs monthly outdated-medication checks. * Administers medications efficiently and correctly utilizing the Pyxis system. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration. * Performs quality assurance screening (i.e., Infection Control/Safety) on a monthly basis. * Maintains competency with operational equipment.
