The Senior Controller is a strategic thought-partner and hands-on manager, responsible for the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the MSU Denver Foundation. This role leads the team responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, budget, and fund management of the division, ensuring alignment with GAAP, FASB standards, and donor intent. The Senior Controller leads and develops the foundation team, ensuring professional growth and support of the division's culture. This position will report to the VP of University Advancement/President & CEO of the MSU Denver Foundation (VPUA) and works closely with other division leaders, auditors, and university partners to support the Foundation's mission of promoting the development and general welfare of Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
Works collaboratively with the VPUA and UA Senior Team to accomplish the division's goals in support of the University's mission, vision, and priorities.
Leads and develops the (3-5 member) Foundation team, ensuring professional development, providing mentoring, and fostering support of the division's culture.
Provides staff leadership and support to the Foundation Board Treasurer, the Audit & Finance Committee, and the Investment Committee, including the preparation of agendas and materials for meetings.
Acts as the primary liaison with the Foundation's investment manager overseeing its portfolio of endowed and non-endowed funds.
Leads the division's efforts to optimize its financial technology and related systems, e.g., Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge.
Financial Management
Manages the division's accounting and finance functions, including financial risks, planning, record-keeping, reporting, annual audit, tax reporting, and business analysis.
Prepares accurate and timely financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders
Oversees and participates in annual audits and tax filings (e.g., IRS Form 990).
Ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, laws, and regulations.
Develops and maintains internal controls and financial policies.
Oversees financial and accounting services provided to the Alumni Association.
Oversees cash management and investment allocation, including initiating cash balancing wires and other activities related to portfolio management in coordination with investment manager.
Collaborates with Advancement Services and fundraising teams to ensure accurate gift processing and financial stewardship.
Reviews complex gift and fund agreements to ensure endowments are properly recorded and follow all policies as well as donor intent
Works with Foundation staff to develop and maintain funding models, net asset roll forwards, and other processes.
Guides the Foundation team to develop online and in-person training of gift accounting and reporting for the division's staff.
Budgeting and Reporting
Leads the development and monitoring of the Foundation's annual budget and the division's budget.
Provides financial analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.
Investment and Endowment Accounting
Supports the management of the Foundation's investment portfolio in collaboration with the investment manager, the Investment Committee, and the VPUA.
Oversees endowment accounting, including fund tracking, distributions, and donor reporting.
Oversees annual endowment distributions and endowment status reporting process.
Compliance and Systems Oversight
Ensures proper documentation and compliance with donor restrictions and gift agreements.
Oversees financial systems and software (e.g., Financial Edge, Workday), ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or higher education.
Experience supervising staff and working with teams.
Experience with financial audits, compliance, and reporting.
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
CPA license and strong understanding of FASB standards.
Experience with nonprofit foundation accounting and planned giving, including complex gifts.
Familiarity with CASE standards and university advancement operations.
Proficiency in Financial Edge, Raiser's Edge, Workday, or similar systems.

Salary for Announcement
Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The anticipated hiring range is $112,131 - $150,000.
This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Commissioning (Cx) Engineer - Level 4 plays a key role in supporting successful execution of commissioning, re/retro-commissioning (RCx), and energy audit projects. This individual will provide technical expertise, oversight, and technical management to ensure that the performance of buildings, systems, and equipment conform to design specifications. This person will also be engaged in marketing activities to support business development efforts, and management of other staff.
Ideally, the person filling this opening will have at least ten years of experience doing this type of work, building operations background, an engineering degree, and Professional Engineer License, familiar with HVAC Test & Balance (TAB) procedures, holding either NEBB Building Systems Commissioning Certification (or equivalent), and established industry contacts and relationships. However, KFI is prepared to hire the right individual, who may be less experienced and does not have these preferred credentials - provided they have the other necessary qualifications. KFI is prepared to invest in the development of the right candidate through internal training and self-driven additional training courses.
The successful candidate will have a pragmatic and applied approach, enjoy fieldwork, and effectively interact directly with customers and contractors. Operational knowledge of Building Automation Controls (BAS) experience is required. They will have a strong attention to detail and will possess effective communication and influencing skills. This person will also be self-directed and will thrive in an environment where consultation and collaboration lead to superior outcomes.
Specific core responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Field Task Execution
Conducts building performance evaluations and audits, including commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning activities.
Primarily executes Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) functional tests, including point verification and sequence tests.
Will be expected to create and execute/witness other systems tests such as electrical, lighting, life safety, fire protection, or plumbing systems.
Actively participates in construction meetings. Directs commissioning meetings, recording action items and distributing these to all key stakeholders.
Performs construction inspections to ensure MEP installations conform to project documents.
Able to perform Test & Balance (TAB) measurements, primarily in retro-commissioning applications. May include execution and management of new construction TAB projects, provided the proper certifications are held.
Reporting
Ability to write and assemble technical reports for commissioning and re/retro-commissioning projects.
May be asked to assist other department staff in calculating building energy use and savings.
Project Management
Act as a Project Manager, including developing a project plan, requesting and securing resources, and keeping the project on track for on time delivery.
Also ensures that all project work is properly set-up, documented, and reported.
Performs design reviews from a commissioning standpoint for new construction Cx projects. Ability to review existing documentation and provide recommendations for re/retro-commissioning projects.
Reviews MEP submittals for conformance to design documents and owner's best interests.
Manages financial aspects of assigned projects, including managing budgets, invoicing, and forecast projects.
Perform staff management, including managing Performance Group personnel working on their project(s). This includes training of less experienced staff in all aspects of commissioning and re/retro-commissioning tasks.
Business Development
Will be asked to contribute to aspects of the business development process, including:
Communicate and build internal and external relationships to ensure marketing strategy and input is aggressive, accurate, persuasive, and timely.
Support new business development opportunities, including properly defined, scoped, and priced.

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Commissioning (Cx) Engineer - Level 4 plays a key role in supporting successful execution of commissioning, re/retro-commissioning (RCx), and energy audit projects. This individual will provide technical expertise, oversight, and technical management to ensure that the performance of buildings, systems, and equipment conform to design specifications. This person will also be engaged in marketing activities to support business development efforts, and management of other staff.
Ideally, the person filling this opening will have at least ten years of experience doing this type of work, building operations background, an engineering degree, and Professional Engineer License, familiar with HVAC Test & Balance (TAB) procedures, holding either NEBB Building Systems Commissioning Certification (or equivalent), and established industry contacts and relationships. However, KFI is prepared to hire the right individual, who may be less experienced and does not have these preferred credentials - provided they have the other necessary qualifications. KFI is prepared to invest in the development of the right candidate through internal training and self-driven additional training courses.
The successful candidate will have a pragmatic and applied approach, enjoy fieldwork, and effectively interact directly with customers and contractors. Operational knowledge of Building Automation Controls (BAS) experience is required. They will have a strong attention to detail and will possess effective communication and influencing skills. This person will also be self-directed and will thrive in an environment where consultation and collaboration lead to superior outcomes.
Specific core responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Field Task Execution
Conducts building performance evaluations and audits, including commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning activities.
Primarily executes Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) functional tests, including point verification and sequence tests.
Will be expected to create and execute/witness other systems tests such as electrical, lighting, life safety, fire protection, or plumbing systems.
Actively participates in construction meetings. Directs commissioning meetings, recording action items and distributing these to all key stakeholders.
Performs construction inspections to ensure MEP installations conform to project documents.
Able to perform Test & Balance (TAB) measurements, primarily in retro-commissioning applications. May include execution and management of new construction TAB projects, provided the proper certifications are held.
Reporting
Ability to write and assemble technical reports for commissioning and re/retro-commissioning projects.
May be asked to assist other department staff in calculating building energy use and savings.
Project Management
Act as a Project Manager, including developing a project plan, requesting and securing resources, and keeping the project on track for on time delivery.
Also ensures that all project work is properly set-up, documented, and reported.
Performs design reviews from a commissioning standpoint for new construction Cx projects. Ability to review existing documentation and provide recommendations for re/retro-commissioning projects.
Reviews MEP submittals for conformance to design documents and owner's best interests.
Manages financial aspects of assigned projects, including managing budgets, invoicing, and forecast projects.
Perform staff management, including managing Performance Group personnel working on their project(s). This includes training of less experienced staff in all aspects of commissioning and re/retro-commissioning tasks.
Business Development
Will be asked to contribute to aspects of the business development process, including:
Communicate and build internal and external relationships to ensure marketing strategy and input is aggressive, accurate, persuasive, and timely.
Support new business development opportunities, including properly defined, scoped, and priced.
Assist in development of letter proposals, including compiling technical and non-technical data, editing, printing, assembly, and submittal of proposal.
Assist in the preparation of proposals and interviews.
Attend conferences and trade shows, networking and identifying new leads and prospects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
10+ years of direct HVAC, building operations, or construction fields.
Experience using AutoCAD.
Possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for work-related travel.
Represent the company in a professional matter.
Proficient in use of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application.
Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel.

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Electrical Engineer II plays a key role in the successful execution of projects. This individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed- both externally and internally. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment. Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Design for medium voltage and 480-volt power systems, including generation and distribution.
Design (drawings, specifications and calculations) of special systems including ground fault, lightning protection, engine-generator, UPS, DC, motor control centers and power factor correction.
Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet codes, standards and contracted scope of work, ensuring application of Electrical Engineering Principles. Standard deliverables include single-line diagrams, plans, schedules, schematics, and details.
Preparation of three lines and schematic drawings.
Performs power system studies, including arc fault hazard analysis, short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination and harmonics studies, using SKM PTW.
Reviews and approves contractor submittals, conducts construction observation and provides field support during startup and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
Develops labor/cost estimates for assigned scope of work and is accountable for ensuring we stay within scope and budget.
Creates project plans and schedules for the execution of work.
May serve as project manager for complete projects, when assigned.
Supports the business development process through input to proposals, meeting and interviewing with prospective customers, etc.
Provides technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Electrical Engineer II plays a key role in the successful execution of projects. This individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed- both externally and internally. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment. This person may also support the business development process, by contributing to proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers.
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Design for medium voltage and 480-volt power systems, including generation and distribution.
Design (drawings, specifications and calculations) of special systems including ground fault, lightning protection, engine-generator, UPS, DC, motor control centers and power factor correction.
Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet codes, standards and contracted scope of work, ensuring application of Electrical Engineering Principles. Standard deliverables include single-line diagrams, plans, schedules, schematics, and details.
Preparation of three lines and schematic drawings.
Performs power system studies, including arc fault hazard analysis, short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination and harmonics studies, using SKM PTW.
Reviews and approves contractor submittals, conducts construction observation and provides field support during startup and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
Develops labor/cost estimates for assigned scope of work and is accountable for ensuring we stay within scope and budget.
Creates project plans and schedules for the execution of work.
May serve as project manager for complete projects, when assigned.
Supports the business development process through input to proposals, meeting and interviewing with prospective customers, etc.
Provides technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
Minimum 3+ years of Electrical Engineering experience post-graduation.
Strong electrical design expertise across various industries and processes.
Proven project experience and/or working knowledge of Process, Instrumentation, and Controls.
Comprehensive understanding of electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural engineering construction practices.
In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NESC, ANSI/IEEE, etc.).
Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence stakeholders.
Proven ability to build strong client relationships and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
