Responsibilities Role and Responsibilities: You will be the first point of contact for many detainees/inmates, diagnosing a wide range of illnesses and injuries, whilst managing the overall care of the patients. In this role, you will: Examine and treat detainees/inmates referred by the nursing/professional staff to ensure proper injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Manage and evaluate medical program activities based on industry standards and contractual obligations. Prescribe medications and regularly review cases requiring ongoing medical attention. Initiate dental and psychiatric referrals. Provide patients with information to promote good health and prevent disease or disability. Document services provided and comprehensive notes in the patient medical records. Communicate effectively with the Hospital medical team, Psychiatric, Mental Health Professionals, Nurses, Health Technicians and Administrative Assistants. Available 24-hours where needed, to advise nursing staff in the care of detainees/inmates/residents after hours. Maintain professional knowledge and education by attending educational workshops/conferences, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies. Act as liaison between correctional officials, public agencies, and the facility. Qualifications Competencies Required: Diagnostic skills, critical thinking, and strong communication skills are key qualities we look for. Responsibilities Summary: The Physician is the first point of contact for many detainees/inmates and as a result must be able to diagnose a wide range of illnesses and injuries. The primary care/internal medicine Physician is also responsible for managing the overall care of the patient and communicating with the specialist or specialists as needed. The Physician manages and evaluates the medical program activities based on industry standards and contractual obligations. This position also functions as liaison between correctional officials, public agencies, and the company. Implements all contractually required services. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Physician examines and treats to ensure proper injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery on detainees referred by the nursing/professional staff under established clinical practice guidelines. The Physician provides medical treatment and orders studies, tests and ancillary services required consistent with the provision of basic health care services. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions and regularly reviews those cases requiring ongoing medical/pharmaceutical attention to include the administration and education of appropriate use of vaccines. The Physician discusses potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up to date before prescribing medication/treatment. Provides advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing. The Physician produces clear and concise health records, reports and correspondence, including the use of Electronic Health Records system. Maintains patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy act. The Physician collaborates and communicates effectively with the Hospital medical team, Psychiatric, Mental Health Professionals, Nurses, Health Technicians and Administrative Assistants. The Physician maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops/seminars/conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies, and completes required Continuing Medical Education requirements. Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor. The Physician provides 24-hour on-call coverage to advise nursing staff in the care of detainees. Performs regular chart review for quality assurance purposes and countersigns telephone orders. The Physician designates the level of care to be performed, and the necessary equipment needed. Identifies continuing care facilities and specialty physicians. Initiates dental and psychiatric referrals. The Physician participates in Mortality Reviews. Reviews and responds to your Peer Reviews. The Physician performs other various duties as assigned.
