Facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions. Select and recommend new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program. Maintain knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse. Maintain a collegian relationship with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations. Complete required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required. Participate in related training for substance abuse. Qualifications Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; and a minimum of three (3) years of full time experience of counseling duties with a criminal justice population in a substance abuse program; and have an Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification by an agency approved and recognized by the California Department of Health Care Services, required. Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments. Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department. Effective communication skills with internal and external contacts at all levels. Problem solving ability. Good interpersonal skills. Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish) may be required as well as experience dealing with specific cultural group. Problem solving ability. Conducts or assists in conducting individual or group counseling sessions and programs. Learns, uses and models principles of the “What Works” system through evidence-based practices in all interactions with clients and other staff members. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates substance abuse program at an office or group of offices using principles of the “What Works” system. Schedules intakes, and group and individual sessions. Discusses specific cases with case managers to determine if they are appropriate for substance abuse treatment. May assist with the assignment of cases. Facilitates psycho-educational/behavior modification groups using principles of the “What Works” system. Documents participants' attendance, participation and progress in Company database. Conducts risk/need assessments and creates individual treatment plans for each assigned participants'. Meets regularly with participants' and documents participants' progress or regress in Company database. Establishes and maintains relationships with outside referral sources, such as in-patient substance abuse facilities or detox facilities. Actively pursues and develops referrals from probation and evaluating agencies. Identifies problem areas that may impact participants' ability to successfully complete treatment. Guides participants' to develop strategies to overcome obstacles to success completion of treatment. May advise Customer of participants' progress regularly or at completion of treatment. Collects participants' fees for program participation. Tracks fee collection for office or group of offices. Ensures that participants' records are accurately completed in a timely manner. May maintain a specific substance abuse treatment case file for every program participant. Selects and recommends new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program. Maintains knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse. Maintains a collegian relationship with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations. Participates in related training for substance abuse. Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Three (3) years experience of counseling duties with a criminal justice population in a substance abuse program, preferred. Certified AOD Counselor Certification by an agency approved and recognized by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Additionally, applicants who have completed the Offender Mentor Certification Program (OMCP) and having obtained AOD Certification may be considered for this position. This position requires a valid Missouri Class E driver's license (Class D for IL resident), proof of continuous auto insurance, and must have an acceptable driving record as outlined by agency policy. The short and sweet: As Mobile Crisis Response personnel, you would be responsible for the assessment/disposition of crisis emergencies for the CCC Service area of Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Madison, Perry, and Ste. Genevieve counties. You would be responding to individuals who are at risk of harming themselves, or others, and conduct assessments of the individual's current situation to ensure their safety and determine the best course for treatment. In this role, you will be working extremely closely with local law enforcement and emergency departments. With this position, you would also be responsible for providing agency discharge documentation as needed. What is the Crisis Intervention Program? Crisis Intervention involves outreach services for individuals who are at risk of harming themselves or others. Master degreed professionals conduct nonjudgmental assessments of individuals' current situations to ensure their physical and psychological safety and to determine disposition for treatment. Community Counseling Center in conjunction with the Department of Mental Health provides an 800 Crisis Line through a regional contract between all Administrative Agents in the Southeast Region of the State and Behavioral Health Response (BHR) in St. Louis. The system, Missouri Access Crisis and Response System (MOCARS) involves emergency calls to be screened by BHR, which forwards the caller's information to the Center's on-call staff. Assessment and disposition occur in emergency rooms and law enforcement offices located in the counties of Bollinger, Cape, Madison, Perry and Ste. Genevieve What your duties would look like as a Mobile Crisis Response: Providing Crisis Services and Interventions in designated counties: You would respond to crisis emergencies and provide assessments per agency procedures in Madison, Ste. Genevieve, and Perry counties. You would also be responsible for making appropriate referrals, assisting with hospitalizations, coordinating with other agencies and resources, and if needed, completing the involuntary commitment process. You would also provide follow-up on disposition to ensure linkage to services has occurred. You would also assist with Agency Discharges as needed. Documentation: You will need to ensure that your documentation is complete, and accurate. Documentation is due after the crisis has been completed; timeliness of documentation is essential for treatment team providers to stay informed of client's treatment needs. Typical documentation includes the Crisis Screening Assessment, PHQ-9, Columbia Severity Suicide Rating Scale (C-SSRS), and the Stanley Brown Safety Plan. Team Based Approach: Communication and collaborate is key to ensure safety of individuals. Work with client's treatment teams, outside providers, and support systems to obtain information and assist in safety planning when needed. What you already know! You know how to manage your time wisely and keep yourself organized. Crisis is often feast of famine and there is no way to predict the volume on a given day or shift. There will be days where there are three crisis situations happening simultaneously, all at different locations, while you are still writing your documentation for the first crisis you had contact with. Staying organized and having excellent time management skills will help you succeed in this position. How to think critically to provide quality mental health services. You are more than familiar with the world of mental health and understand the importance of having a client-centered approach to treatment, but you also know that every case you present to is unique, with its own risk factors, protective factors, mental health needs, and natural supports. Additionally, you have a master's degree in Mental Health and would be considered a Qualified Mental Health Professional. How to communicate effectively. There are many moving parts associated with a client's treatment, and you know how to navigate these effectively to ensure the client is receiving appropriate services. How to work independently to accomplish a task. While having a team-based approach is important for this position, you primarily are working independently. However, you will have supports available 24/7 for any questions or consultation that you need. What you will learn (if you don't know already)! How to deliver crisis intervention services to a diverse population. Including the various documentation skills needed and learning our Electronic Health Record System. How to utilize your time management skills for collaborative documentation to ensure all notes are being completed on time; ensuring your client is receiving quality care. The importance of self-care, not only to help our clients, but also ourselves. This position can be hectic, and it is important to demonstrate those self-care techniques to ensure you are not getting burnt out. How Success is Measured: Direct Service: Timely response to crisis calls in the two-county coverage area. Documentation: Providing quality, thorough, and concise documentation. Ensuring that your documentation is completed within the designated timeframe by utilizing collaborative documentation. Client Success: Coordinating appropriate community aftercare, including but not limited to explaining to the client the registration and enrollment process through CCC, providing community resources to assist with immediate needs, working with client and natural supports to ensure safety while maintaining the least restrictive environment, also phone surveys are completed monthly per provider to obtain feedback from clients on the crisis interaction. Communication: Communicating with the client, family, and others associated with the client's safety. This includes hospitals, referred agencies, law enforcement, and CCC programs. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum B.A. degree, preferably in human services. CADC preferred, or the abiity to become fully certified within two years of employment. Preference given to experience within a correctional setting. Working knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments. Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department. Physical Requirements In this position, you will frequently have to lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Responsibilities Summary: The Substance Use Disorder Counselor under general supervision and as part of a team, is responsible for the administration of standard screening and risk assessments with participants. This position will be assigned specific participants, referred as a “caseload” and monitor the service delivery for these participants from intake to discharge within the Pretrial Complex (Region IV Baltimore City, MD). Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Substance Use Disorder Counselor administers, scores, and interprets all required screening and assessment tools including but not limited to the Texas Christian University (TCU) Drug Screen, Treatment Assignment Protocol (TAP), and the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment (URICA). May also use other assessment and substance abuse evaluation tools to support the level of care American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor conducts screenings and assessments during the intake process and back-end screenings for standing populations. Conducts post-testing for participants as they go through the program. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor interviews participants to collect additional data not covered by the above assessment tools. Maintains participant files. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor provides the following services, screening and assessments, individual substance abuse counseling and group substance abuse counseling. Completes biopsychosocial assessments, treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, discharge summaries, daily productivity trackers. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor maintains clinical chart per the Code of Maryland (COMAR) regulations and requirements. Complete discharge and aftercare plans. Participates in All Staff Meeting and Workplace Violence Meetings. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor actively participates and attends clinical supervision. May participate in other Participant-Staffing Meetings, Case Consultations. Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Must hold an ADT designation. Must be able to work a varied schedule that may include evenings. Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred. Experience providing human service functions preferred. Ability to interact professionally in both individual and group counseling settings. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with participants, other staff, and leadership personnel and react quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
