Full-time Description
As a Project Environmental Engineer or Scientist, you will be responsible for planning, performing, and managing fieldwork to collect environmental data (soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor), performing and managing oversight of cleanup construction, lead efforts related to multimedia compliance, evaluating and interpreting environmental data, performing engineering and scientific analysis and evaluation, preparing cleanup documents including work plans, reports and design (design drawings, specifications, and engineers estimate), managing projects/tasks, and mentoring junior staff. Performs duties in collaboration with senior engineers/geologists.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, perform, and manage field explorations and environmental data (soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor) collection efforts. Field explorations may include drilling and test pitting to collect soil samples, sediment grab sampling and coring, and monitoring well installation and collection of groundwater samples.
Lead efforts related to multimedia compliance (predominantly construction and industrial stormwater, but air and wastewater are included). This includes permitting, monitoring, and reporting across construction and operational phases.
Evaluate and interpret field and laboratory environmental data, perform engineering/scientific analysis and evaluation, and develop solutions to complex problems.
Evaluate the fate and transport of environmental contaminants in various media including soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor, and develop conceptual site models to evaluate contaminant exposure pathways to receptors.
Prepare remedial investigation work plans, sampling and analysis plans, data reports, remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS) reports, cleanup action plans, and remedial action completion reports on environmental remediation projects involving multiple contaminated media including soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor.
Prepare design documents and supporting deliverables, including engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, and engineers' estimate.
Prepare permit applications and coordinate with regulatory agencies in obtaining project permits.
Support clients with project bidding/contract solicitation, and contractor selection process for cleanup construction.
Perform management and oversight of cleanup construction involving remedial excavation, dredging of contaminated sediment and wood debris, installation of sediment caps, installation, operations and maintenance of in-situ remediation systems and site restoration activities.
Provide project closeout and long-term monitoring support on environmental remediation projects.
Perform project and task management duties, such as developing scopes of work and budgets, coordination with clients, subcontractor solicitation, invoicing, cost control, and contract reviews.
Communicate effectively with clients, regulators, contractors and project staff through the lifecycle of a project.
Mentor and train junior staff.
Essential duties and responsibilities may vary based on projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering or geology. Master's degree preferred.
5 to 10 years of environmental consulting or related professional experience.
QSD or QSP certification preferred.
PE license required.
Ability to prepare proposals, work plans, data reports, remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS) reports, and design (design drawings, specifications and engineers' estimate) under a senior engineer'/geologist's supervision.
QISP certification is preferred.
Familiarity with Local, State, and Federal permitting processes applicable to environmental cleanup projects is preferred.
Strong project management and technical environmental skillset preferred.
Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
Works well independently and collaboratively as part of project teams and GeoEngineers' environmental group.
Strong verbal and written communication and technical writing skills.
A valid driver's license is required.
Commitment to safety, including working knowledge of State and Federal health and safety requirements. Completion of 40-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training preferred.

Our best estimate of the salary range for Project Environmental Engineer 1, located in San Diego, CA is $87,200 - $122,900 annually. Our best estimate of the salary range for Project Environmental Scientist 1, located in San Diego, CA is $76,200 - $107,400 annually. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers' salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.

Stantec is seeking a consulting biologist with a minimum of 10 years of experience to join our southern California Ecosystems Group by operating out of our San Diego, California office. We welcome a talented and collaborative team member with demonstrable experience in southern California and elsewhere. As a Senior-level Biologist with Stantec, you will work in a highly dynamic team environment with other biologists/ecologists/water resource specialists, and land planning and regulatory experts. This position will include opportunities for both field and office work; it may also involve field work during construction of projects and implementation of ecosystem restoration projects. In this position, you will be responsible for the contribution and management of multi-disciplinary project teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of siting and licensing of energy production, including renewable energy, and electric and gas transmission projects, as well as natural resource planning and management projects. What You Will Do for Stantec
As a Senior Biologist:
- You will manage projects, supervise staff, lead and mentor project field teams, and provide support to other project managers undertaking renewable energy, oil and gas, and other development projects.
- You will schedule, assist, and/or lead teams for field tasks, as needed, such as botanical surveys, special-status species surveys/inventories, nesting bird surveys, vegetation community assessments and mapping, jurisdictional waters delineations and assessments, and compliance monitoring.
- You will provide guidance to junior staff, including providing training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring.
- You will plan, prepare, and review technical reports or portions of larger environmental assessments.
- You will work with business development teams and lead efforts to respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) including defining the scope of work, associated cost, and compiling relevant sections of proposal documents
- You will contribute to our corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
- You will coordinate with clients and regulators to communicate results of various survey efforts and technical reports.
- You will lead development of permitting strategies, permit application packages, and agency negotiations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
You are a biologist or natural resources management specialist and have a minimum 10 years of related experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility in conducting biological resources surveys and preparing technical reports. Your skills should include:
- Demonstrable experience in all aspects of project management, biological impact assessment and mitigation strategy development, and preparation and review of biological resources documents.
- Demonstrable experience in providing strong support and collaboration in delivering high quality work products to multi-disciplinary project teams within project scope, budget and schedule expectations.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
- Business development acumen with established relationships with clients and regulatory agency staff and/or the capability of successfully developing and maintaining these relationships.
- Significant experience in reviewing and analyzing scientific data, maps, and drawings with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Significant demonstrable background, knowledge, and experience with the flora, fauna, and vegetative communities of southern California; experience in other areas of California, including desert regions and elsewhere will be considered a plus.
- Significant experience in conducting floristic botanical surveys, reconnaissance wildlife surveys, and species-specific protocol surveys; experience/permits with Chino checkerspot butterfly, arroyo toad, burrowing owl, coastal California gnatcatcher, least Bell's vireo, southwestern willow flycatcher, Mohave ground squirrel, small mammal trapping, and/or desert tortoise will be considered a plus.
- Significant experience in preparing technical documentation including biological survey reports, technical memoranda, Biological Resources Technical Reports (BRTRs), jurisdictional waters delineations and Aquatic Resources Delineation Reports (ARDRs), and/or biological resources sections for CEQA/NEPA documents
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and processes, particularly in southern California, such as:- California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act (CEQA/NEPA)
- Federal and California Endangered Species Act (FESA/CESA)
- Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (MBTA/BGEPA)
- Clean Water Act (CWA)

- California Fish and Game Code (FGC)
- California Coastal Act and Local Coastal Programs (CCA/LCPs)
- Significant experience in preparation of regulatory permit applications such as Clean Water Act Section 404/401, Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs), Fish and Game Code Section 1600 Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements, and/or federal/state Incidental Take Permits (ITPs).
- Demonstrated experience leading environmental permitting of energy facilities, pipelines, and/or linear infrastructure projects in the western United States.
- Demonstrated technical competence and project experience in natural resource fields applicable to commercial (primarily conventional or renewable energy generation/transmission) siting and licensing or environmental permitting of other infrastructure projects.
- Experience in working on construction projects, compliance monitoring, environmental training, interpretation and application of regulatory requirements, and post-construction monitoring/reporting on small to large projects.
- Experience with using GPS/GIS technology to collect biological survey data, map vegetation communities, and/or delineate jurisdictional waters.
- Possession of a California Scientific Collecting Permit, State Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and or federal Recovery Permit for special-status species will be considered a plus.
- Wetland delineation training certificate will be considered aplus.
- Must have ability to occasionally travel.
- Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
- A medical physical and/or drug and alcohol screening may be required for some project assignments.
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40 certification is a plus.

BS (MS degree preferred) in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field with minimum of 10 years of experience.

AECOM is currently seeking Senior Geologist candidates to support Geo-Civil projects from our San Diego, California office.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Maintaining long-term relationships with clients in civil infrastructure and mining by providing technical expertise, attending client and project meetings, managing client expectations, and supporting business development pursuits.
Planning, budgeting and executing surface and subsurface field geologic and geotechnical exploration, and managing support staff required to execute investigations
Perform geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards and site characterization;
Provide support on the design and installation of ground water wells and geotechnical instrumentation (VWP's, inclinometers, transducers, etc.);
Provide interpretation of site conditions including: geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data and preparing geotechnical and geologic reports;

Performing liaison activities with regulatory agencies (local, state, and federal agencies) on behalf of our clients;

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalence of experience and/or education.
Professional licensure (PG/CEG/PE) required.
Valid US driver's License required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geological Engineering (Master's preferred)
Ideally, 10+ years of experience as a Geologist/Engineering Geologist including investigations.

AECOM has an opening for an entry level Geologist in our San Diego, Orange or Westlake Village, California office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation.
This position is expected to begin in Spring 2026.
The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve the preparation of investigation reports.
Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced On-site Project Controls Manager to support Federal Projects and Programs.
Key Responsibilities
May supervise a Project Controls team in effort to maintain schedules, cost controls, forecasting and Change management in all level reporting.
Coach, monitor, and assist project controls team for various project assignments.
Review outstanding tasks with team members and update priority list and/or projects and/or clients with any changes.
Assist Project Management Team with project setup and execution.
Effectively communicate the results of budget, cost and schedule analyses with PM and other project leaders. Identify issues, successes, and assist in developing project recovery plans when required.
Conduct review sessions on project status with project management and/or client and highlight adverse schedule and cost variances for corrective actions.
Ensure that all Project Controls activities are in accordance with set Project specifications and Statement of Work, including preparation and review of schedules, cost reports, cash flow and variance analysis.
Lead meetings with internal project teams, Project Approvers, Finance, and Accounting.
Attend team meetings to help in resolving issues, review progress reports and ensure assignment of new tasks.
Monitor Key Performance Indicators, such as earned value, cost, and schedule performance, estimate to completion, and project end dates.
Reviews purchase order and subcontract commitments and expenditures. Maintains tracking database to ensure that subcontractor funding is aligned with work authorization and expenditures.
Read and understand client contracts and subcontracts, particularly related to scope, schedule, budget, and risk. Coordinate with project management team to ensure all procedures are in place to meet contractual requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS in Engineering, Construction Management, Data Science or Finance with 4 Years of relevant experience in project controls and/or data analytics.
Due to the nature of the project, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience working with engineering, construction management, or related field.
Detailed knowledge of project planning and scheduling methods, practices, and earned value.
Must have demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications
P6 Scheduling software skills
Experience in resident engineering, construction management, project management, engineering, scheduling, and related fields.
Experience working in a time-sensitive environment with direct client interface and high-level accountability.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, plan, adapt and self-initiate tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
