Job Description: RESPEC, an internationally recognized engineering consulting and services company with domestic and international projects, seeks a mid-level geological engineer in its Grand Junction, Colorado, office. RESPEC's current mining projects focus on limestone, salt, potash, phosphates, trona, critical minerals, brines, and other commodities. Domestic and international travel may be required for client development, visits to client mine sites, and client and corporate meetings.
Duties will include the following:

+ Perform geologic logging and sampling for soils and rock to support geotechnical testing plans

+ Identify, map, and evaluate geologic conditions or hazards in surface and underground locations

+ Develop, design, and manage exploration drilling programs for various commodities of interest

+ Develop and implement site safety plans, geotechnical monitoring plans, and environmental sampling plans

+ Use industry-standard software applications to analyze, map, and interpret geotechnical data.

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor of science degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, or a related field; or master of science degree

+ Minimum of 4 years of experience in geologic analysis in either surface or underground mine environments or similar operational spaces,

+ Professional licensure or ability and willingness to obtain

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience; typical salary range for this position is $75k-95k, DOEQ. Job Description:

The Field Geological Engineer will be part of the Stantec Design field team during the construction of the Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks depending on the progress of the construction and needs of the field team. The work assigned has complex aspects that will require the application of knowledge and experience. Work tasks may include assisting with geologic mapping of the quarry, dam foundations, tunnels, and other required excavations as well as the geotechnical evaluation of these features. Your duties will also include representing Stantec in field meetings, documenting your work in daily and monthly reports, and other performing other work as requested by your supervisor.

The successful candidate will be working onsite in conjunction with other engineers and geologists on multi-discipline teams to support the construction of Chimney Hollow dam, tunnel, spillway and quarry within the state of Colorado actively being built. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, and with small and large teams to apply critical thinking skills to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. After the completion of the work at Chimney Hollow site, it is anticipated that you will transition into a role in the Denver or Ft. Collins office. At this point, the successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks for dams and hydroelectric projects, conveyance tunnels, and water resource projects for a variety of domestic and international clients.

Responsibilities:

+ Conduct field inspections; observe and participate in field exploration and testing programs including the collection and evaluation of soil and rock properties and evaluation of geomechanical conditions; perform site characterizations and evaluate geotechnical hazards under the supervision of more senior engineers/geologists.

+ Conduct geologic mapping to support various types of field programs.

+ Assist with feasibility studies by conducting research (i.e., desktop study, field reconnaissance) to assess challenges and develop the basis of geological/geotechnical understanding of the program to support the project as it progresses.

+ Plan and implement field investigation programs, which may include field coordination, soil and rock drilling, test pitting, sampling, mapping, etc.

+ Provide field oversight for projects during investigation or construction phases by acting as the field lead, involving other supporting staff or subcontractors.

+ Contribute to all phases of programs, including the following types of projects: design, inspection and construction of dams, tunnels, caverns, foundations, slopes, and earth-retaining structures.

+ Assess subsurface conditions, including review and interpretation of field maps, field logs, test data, and other field documentation, evaluate field and laboratory test data and develop parameters for use in technical analyses.

+ Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines for planning and executing work in the office and the field in a safe manner.

+ Work in conjunction with engineers, geologists, and other professionals to solve project challenges and performing design calculations as required.

+ Lead and mentor younger staff and run projects and tasks with the assistance of other engineers or geologists.

+ Conduct geotechnical analyses using programs such as, but not limited to, DIPS, UNWEDGE, SWEDGE, Phase2, SEEP/W and SLOPE/W.

+ Develop familiarity with regulatory agency requirements, technical design standards, and industry standards and guidelines.

+ Prepare technical reports including geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, design and evaluation reports, construction drawings, and specifications.

+ Participate in professional development and training activities.

**Qualifications**

+ 6 years' work experience in engineering geology, geological or geotechnical engineering, dams experience a plus.

+ Master's Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical from an accredited university preferred.

+ Professional Engineer license and / or Professional Geologist license preferred.

+ Willing and able to travel, both nationally and internationally, to conduct field investigation or construction quality oversight type work.

+ Working knowledge of the principles of civil/geotechnical and geological engineering.

+ Some exposure to or knowledge of geotechnical analysis.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint software.

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

+ Sound organizational, technical, written, and oral communication skills with attention to detail.
