**Role Overview**
The primary function of the Part-Time Geology/Petrography Technician is to prepare and perform optical analyses on hardened concrete samples in the development of new admixture products and the support of customers. The individual will assist scientists in the execution of experiments, lab organization, and diverse sample evaluations. The technician will be exposed to a variety of industry test methods and lab equipment including stereographic and petrographic microscopes, x-ray diffraction (XRD) and x-ray florescence (XRF), and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), with a focus on mineral and cementitious materials.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Perform sample preparation of hardened concrete specimens
+ Conduct optical analysis of prepared concrete samples in support of new admixture development and field support
+ Develop familiarity with testing methods and equipment to support a variety of analyses
+ Prepare data summary reports for both internal and external customers
+ Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace
+ Follow all appropriate Environmental Protection, Safety, Health (EHS) policies
**Knowledge and Experience**
**Education**
+ Two years or more of study in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Geology Experience
+ Experience in a laboratory setting is not necessary, but helpful
**Knowledge/Skills**
+ Basic chemistry-laboratory skills
+ Background in geology preferred
+ Effective verbal and written communication are required
**Work Environment**
This job operates in a laboratory environment. Based on the job description, the role will use standard office equipment and equipment as specified in the laboratory to perform analyses of raw materials and products for the company. All employees will be expected to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. For this role, work hours will fall within the standard office operations hours, which are Monday to Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.
