University of Kentucky geological technician job description

The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking a safety-conscious and self-motivated employee to contribute to a two-year grant-funded project. The project's main deliverables include preserving and describing 170 rock cores for use in research. This position will include identification, labeling, and rehousing tasks while working on a team. Strong applicants will have an interest in data preservation, attention to detail, clear handwriting, and be skilled at identifying minute differences. Previous experience with material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, is a plus. This position is eligible for healthcare benefits.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect our university community including our students, staff, faculty and visitors, the University of Kentucky is requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of October 18, 2021, all new hires prior to their first day of employment must submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19, or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.

Coeur Mining, Inc. is a well-diversified growing precious metals producer with five operations in North America. Coeur's wholly owned operations include the Palmarejo gold-silver complex in Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska, the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota and the Silvertip silver-zinc-lead mine in British Columbia. In addition, the Company has interests in several precious metal's exploration projects throughout North America. Coeur's headquarters are in Chicago, IL.

The Kensington underground gold mine and associated milling facilities are located within the Berners Bay Mining District on the east side of Lynn Canal about 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau, Alaska.
Responsibilities

* Undertake sample handling in the core yard.
* Organize core sample transfer to mine lab.
* Prepare and load core sample shipments and associated paperwork for transfer to outside labs.
* Prepare and maintain records of assay lab submittal sheets and shipment transfer records.
* Follow the core sawing requirements for exploration drill holes, as directed by supervisor.
* Help with sample storage efforts.
* The successful candidates will work twelve (12) hours per day, fifteen (15) days on / thirteen (13) days off. Position will be located at the camp during shift rotation.

Position Requirements:

* Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Computer literate (Excel, Word, Outlook).
* Ability to work in a variety of different environments, e.g. camp, field, occasionally underground.
* Ability to lift 60 - 70 lbs. repeatedly
* Excellent organizational and communication skills. Detail oriented.
* Comfortable operating heavy equipment (forklifts, skid steer) and light vehicles (pickup truck, flatbed).
* Ability to work in multiple-task environment and work with supervisor to properly assign priorities.
* Ability to establish credibility and be decisive, but able to recognize and support organization's priorities and preferences.
* Ability to get along with diverse personalities; tactful, mature, flexible and able co-exist in remote camp setting.
* Experience with ac Quire Database is helpful but not essential.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
* Preference given to Alaskan applicants.
