Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Geologist or Environmental Scientist or Environmental Engineer to join our team in Concord, CA. While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend 50% to 75% of their time in the field. As part of our Resilience Environment team, you'll help improve quality of life. With your expertise in environmental science or geology or environmental engineering your work could involve a range of remediation and/or sampling and/or monitoring activities as directed and in accordance with relevant Health and Safety or other operational standards. Role accountabilities: In this role, your responsibilities will involve actively participating in field activities as part of a team. These activities include supporting drilling operations, which includes the installation of monitoring wells and providing descriptions of soil or rock. You will be responsible for conducting soil, groundwater, and air sampling in compliance with both State and Federal standards. Another crucial aspect of your role will be data management tasks such as compiling, manipulating, and evaluating data. You will provide support in writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda. You will contribute to the production of figures, maps, and boring logs to aid in the visual representation of project information. Your duties will include: * Performing onsite/field activities, including sampling and oversight of contractors/subcontractors which may include drilling oversight, soil sampling and/or groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, excavation oversight, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys. * Field data collection, analysis, and interpretation * Assisting with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, memoranda, and permit application preparation * Data compilation, evaluation, and QA/QC * Coordination with a variety of project managers, engineers/scientists, field crews, and support staff as part of project teams Qualifications & Experience: Required Qualification: * Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related discipline Preferred Qualifications * 1-2 years of relevant experience * 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification Why Arcadis? YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. At least two (2) years of experience in California with a range of field tasks, including archaeological survey, construction monitoring, and site recording. Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related discipline. Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform survey and monitoring projects. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work well with others as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with construction crews. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel and ability to use related computer systems and software. Experience with GPS equipment and Field Maps, Survey 123, or a similar software program is required. Must have a valid driver's license and own transportation, with travel often required off of paved roads. Familiarity with cultural resource law and regulations is preferred. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to travel as needed throughout Northern California, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.
